Drivers Rewarded Through Brewerton Speedway Outlaw 100/Five Mile Point Short Track SuperNationals Cross-Promotion; Penn Can Speedway 'King of the Can' Spot Also Up For Grabs
KIRKWOOD, NY - Central New York Modified racers have added incentive to compete in the 2011 edition of the Short Track SuperNationals.
Brett Deyo, promoter of the fourth annual "Working Man's Race" scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8 at Five Mile Point Speedway (Kirkwood, N.Y.) has forged an agreement with Brewerton Speedway (Brewerton, N.Y.) owner John Wight to cross-promote the SuperNationals and Wight's inaugural Outlaw 100 set for Thursday, Oct. 6 at the 'D-Shaped Dirt Demon' Brewerton one-third mile.
The cross-promotion plays into the hands of racers supporting both events. With Brewerton and its sister track, Fulton (N.Y.) Speedway, announcing a move to American Racer tires for 2011 (both tracks will participate in the American Racer East Coast Modified Cup), race teams in the Central New York event can more affordably attend events such as the Short Track SuperNationals and vice versa for Southern Tier competitors.
Should one driver win both the Outlaw 100 at Brewerton on Thursday and the Short Track SuperNationals at Five Mile Point on Saturday, that competitor would earn a $1,000 cash bonus.
Additionally, the highest finishing driver from Thursday's event failing to make the feature cut at the SuperNationals Saturday and the following Sunday (Oct. 16) at the Penn Can Speedway (Susquehanna, Pa.) King of the Can finale will be added to the main event field as a guaranteed starter.
As in all BD Motorsports Media events, the guaranteed spot will not take away a position from cars trying to qualify. The position will be added after the feature field is set.
The Short Track SuperNationals was first run in 2006 at Afton (N.Y.) Speedway with Mike Ricci prevailing over a 54-car Modified field for the victory. The race returned in 2009 at a new location, Five Mile Point, and Pennsylvania racer Kevin Hirthler won with 70 Modifieds on hand.
Most recently, upstart Modified racer Justin Holland earned the 2010 SuperNationals triumph with a record 72 Modifieds packing the pit area. Holland represented the SuperNationals and VP Racing Fuels Short Track Four Crown presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc. at the Motorsports Exposition & Trade Show held at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, N.Y., this past weekend.
The SuperNationals features a racer-friendly 50-lap feature on the wide and racy Five Mile Point quarter-mile and liberal rules allowing big- and small-block engine combinations, gasoline or methanol, any dirt Modified tire, and lineups are established by a legitimate draw for position.
First run in 1999, the 'King of the Can' has long been the marquee race each year at Penn Can Speedway. For this year's edition, BD Motorsports Media joins speedway managers Al Wilcox and Reed Miller to co-promote the event.
Still in its early stages, the Outlaw 100 will be a new spin on a traditional midweek date at Brewerton. Speedway management is hard at work finalizing details of the event, which will follow a rules package similar to the Outlaw 200 run at Fulton Speedway. Additional information will be publicized as it becomes available. Visit http://www.brewertonspeedway.com/ for updates.
The Short Track SuperNationals, King of the Can, $8,000-to-win Clash at the Can (June 7) and Hot Summer Night (Aug. 9) comprise the VP Racing Fuels Short Track Four Crown presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc. A four-race champion will be crowned and teams entering all events will be eligible for contingency prizes and awards.
