NAPA AUTO PARTS OF THE DELAWARE VALLEY present:
DUAL SHOW FORMAT PROVES SUCCESSFUL AS 4TH ANNUAL IRCO CREDIT UNION DIRT TRACK HEROES CAR SHOW CELEBRATES THE RICH HERITAGE OF AUTO RACING
The sixth day of the week long 4th Annual IRCO Credit Union Dirt Track Heroes Show presented by NAPA Auto Parts of the Delaware Valley rocked the racing world on Friday as the event organizers added a special wrinkle to punctuate what has already been a show that has continuously raised the bar all week long as new records are achieved in each day of the four year old Mall event. With legendary racing giants Bill Wimble and Freddy Adam anchoring a solid panel of equally as gifted racing stars, the well noted broadcasting team of Ed and Steve Pados ignited the well attended event as they launched into a more than two hour chat session with the star-studded group with each of the drivers sharing stories and talking about their exciting racing days when they rode the crest of one victory after another that highlighted their careers and made them into the legends of the sport we respect today.
Bill Wimble, the 1960-1961 NASCAR Sportsman Champion, was kept busy throughout the session as he signed his "I'll Never Be Last Again" book about his incredible journey through life from farming to racing and on into a very successful business career that is winding down today. Freddy Adam, the highly recognizable "Kutztown Komet" was signing his book "The Life and Times of the Kutztown Komet" and was surprised when the author of the book Paul Weisel paid the group a visit. Joining in the for the first show that ran until 6:30 were racing legends, Carl "Fuzzy" Van Horn, car owner extraordinaire Richard "The King" Marinelli, "The Everett Express" Gerald Chamberlain, "The Rocket" Ronnie Dunstan, Ray Liss, Jimmy Keppley, Leroy "Mau Mau" Amey, Bobby Braxton, Bill Decoster, Red Coffin, Tommy Hager and Sammy Beavers as the great stories rolled off the tongues of the mighty legendary drivers that created them. Joanne Chamberlain, Mary Adam and Bob Miller added additional Reading Speedway stories and Billy Tanzosh made a surprise appearance late at the end of the first show.
With a twenty minute break to shift sets and sign in the second show's driving stars, IRCO Vice President Greg Collins was introduced and he spoke about the first show setting meant to him as a sponsor and a fan of the great talent that filled the stage area for the day and evening show. With 141 race cars from all divisions represented at the show, Collins and the Pados Brothers thanked everyone involved with the show including the sponsors, drivers and owners and the true racing fans who have enjoyed a fabulous week at the Mall with nightly stage shows and the vast memorabilia collections from all of the vendors inside the Mall Area.
The second set of interviews kicked off at 7 PM as the Pados Brothers, Borgers Speedway announcer Bobby Stull and Bridgeport Speedway announcer Jeff Ahlum conducted interviews until the Mall closing at 9 PM. Heading up the open wheel contingent included talented ARDC Rookies Mark Gilmore and Keith McIntyre, ARDC runner-up Ryan Smith, Nick Wean, open wheel legend Jimmy Maguire, sprint stars Mares Stellfox, Jonathan Swanson, Bill Case Jr, Mark Bitner and Stef Palmai as they all told of their plans for the upcoming 2011 racing season. TSRS guru Joe Grandinetti talked of the great plans for his racing series as the 305 sprint cars have gained a foothold in the Tri-State area. Bob Trafford, the co-owner of the very successful Spike Chassis Company was on hand and talked of the success of his race cars and the new Quarter midget program they will be launching in 2011. Trafford was kind enough to bring some great giveaways that saw many racing fans walking away with some great T-shirts for answering some trivia questions asked by the show hosts. Jason Rochelle was on hand to talk of his late model plans in 2011 and the Modified stars on hand included "The Magic Man" Mike Mamanna, Larry Lippincott, Frank Dorry Jr, Tom Miller, Jimmy Horton IV, and John Willman. Hall of Famer Ken Brenn Sr was on hand and many addtional current day drivers were in the audience
The show will continue through Saturday night, March 12 and the Saturday stage show will be sponsored by Vertical Telephone Systems in New Jersey. The Phillipsburg Mall is conveniently located on Route 22 East in Phillipsburg, NJ and serves as the home base for the Dirt Track Heroes show for the fourth consecutive year. The show hours for Saturday are Noon until 2:30 for the Flemington and Harmony Historical Societies and from 3 PM on for the Dorney Park group set up by Henry and Sue Wilt. All historical racing groups including Reading, Flemington, Harmony, Dorney Park and Nazareth have their vast memorabilia collections on display and their scrapbooks wide open for the fans to take another long look at the glory years of racing and possibly find a picture or two they want to purchase as a keepsake of past glory or racing exploits.
All racing divisions are well represented at the show and include big and small block Modifieds, Sportsman, Micro-Sprints, ARDC Midgets, URC Sprints, TSRS Sprints, Late Models, go-karts and a broad variety of vintage and restored race cars. Several race tracks will use this event as an opportunity to get the word out on their up-coming 2011 racing season. For the fourth consecutive year, CARQUEST Gasoline Alley and the Pados Brothers will host the nightly events and interviews along with some guest announcers. Bobby Stull and Justin Beltrame have signed on to play a part in the show.
