Lingering Effects of Winter Weather Push Big Diamond Speedway Practice Back To Friday, April 1; 39th Season Opener Set For Sunday, April 3



MINERSVILLE, PA - A harsh, wet winter in Coal Country has left lasting effects at Big Diamond Speedway.



As a result, speedway owners Fritz and Krista Roehrig have postponed the scheduled Sunday, March 27 open practice session to the following Friday, April 1. Wet grounds have delayed improvement projects and other maintenance to be completed at the Schuylkill County facility in advance of its 39th season.



Gates will open at 5 p.m. with the track open for practice at 7 p.m. Pit admission is $20. Grandstand admission is free of charge.



All divisions of cars that will compete at Big Diamond Speedway in 2011 in any division are welcome at the open practice session.



Opening Day remains Sunday, April 3 with The Station House 358-Modifieds beginning their championship battle with a 35-lap feature paying $3,000 to the winner. The U.S.S. Achey Sportsman and Wooden Keg Tavern Roadrunners complete the program with a 5 p.m. start time in place. Sunday evening racing continues through April 17 followed by a weekend off for Good Friday and Easter Sunday (April 22-24). The first Friday-night program, with an 8:15 p.m. start time, is planned for April 29.



A large contingent of Big Diamond Speedway race vehicles is currently on display at the T102 (101.9 FM - WAVT) Race Car Show at the Fairlane Village Mall of Pottsville, Pa. The show runs through Saturday, March 12. Show information is on the web at http://www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com/.
