FREE-TO-THE-PUBLIC PRACTICE SESSION AT GRANDVIEW MARCH 26
Official NASCAR season gets the green on April 2nd
BECHTELSVILLE, PA March 17, 2011. . . The 49th consecutive season of stock car racing at Grandview Speedway gets the green flag on Saturday, March 26th with a free-to-the-public practice session open to all divisions of competition. Imagine that, something for FREE.
Often referred to as a “test and tune” session, racers will be using the noon time practice session as a final opportunity to make sure their equipment, some new and some reworked, is ready for another season of tough competition.
More than 70 race teams are expected to be on hand. Many of the NASCAR 358 Modified and Late Model teams that compete at Grandview are expected to be part of the afternoon action.
Once the practice day is out of the way all attention will turn to opening night which is set for Saturday, April 2nd , 7 p.m. A doubleheader show featuring the NASCAR 358 Modifieds and Late Models will kick off the point chase for the lucrative NASCAR and track point titles.
“We are expecting to see a large field of racers in both divisions for the opening night racing,” said track owner Bruce Rogers. “It is going to be a season long battle between the veterans and the youngsters as each has their sights set on winning the lucrative championships.”
Duane Howard will be looking for his second straight championship as he shoots for another banner season. The Oley, PA racer won eight features during the 2010 season won the title by comfortable margin over eight time champion Jeff Strunk. Of course Howard will have a long list of talented racers trying to keep him from winning a second straight championship.
There will be a new champion in the Late Model division as three time champion Brian Shuey will be traveling to Central Pennsylvania speedways racing unlimited Late Models and just making a few appearances at Grandview. Veterans Ron Kline, Mike Kellner, and Chuck Schutz are expected to battle for the top spot.
Practice day will also be a great time for fans to pick out their reserved seat to go with their season passes. The cost for a season pass is just $300 and that includes all the Saturday night shows between April and September.
Coming up on Sunday, April 3rd, 12 noon, the Outlaw Slingshot racers will see competition as will the always exciting NEETS Enduros. This will be the first of eight dates featuring the Slingshots and Enduros.
Just added to the schedule is the Billy Pauch Driving School on Sunday, May 15th.
