THUNDER SERIES APPROACHES HISTORIC 100TH EVENT IN 2011

The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series has been making history for most of its twenty-one years at the Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA. In 2011, Thunder on the Hill will reach its' 100th event.

From that wildly successful first Thunder Show in August of 1990, when the grandstands were literally overflowing with spectators, the Thunder Series has evolved to be much more then just a stand alone 410 sprint car event. The risky call to bring the winged 410 sprint cars into stock car county was without a doubt the right decision and as the years went on, Thunder on the Hill offered a diverse variety of divisions that today are well received by thousands of race fans.

As the race fans keep coming back, so do the sponsors with NAPA Auto Parts returning for the twenty-first season. Also returning to have a strong presence at the Thunder Series is VERTICAL Telephone Systems, previously known as COMDIAL. We also welcome members of the Thunder Series sponsor roster to include Lee Myles Transmissions and BPG Racing. With ninety-seven Thunder Series events in the books and more then $3.2 million dollars paid to the competitors, it's time to take a look at the exciting 2011 NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series.

The 2011 Thunder Series proudly presents the following events:

Wednesday, May 25 the Keystone Cup 410 Sprint Series will invade the lightening fast and always tricky Grandview Speedway. The high speed 410 sprints turn the one-third mile oval in the eleven second bracket. World of Outlaw sprint car driver Joey Saldana said it best, "Driving a 410 sprint car at Grandview is like flying a jet fighter plane in a high school gymnasium". In other words, if you've never seen the 410 sprints at Grandview, the Thunder Series opener is the one to see. The 358 Modifieds with all their stars like Duane Howard, Craig VonDohren, Doug Manmiller, Kevin Hirthler and Jeff Strunk will be in the field.

Always a popular event on the Hill will be the USAC National Wingless Sprint Series, titled the Jesse Hockett Classic, taking place on Tuesday night, May 31. The wingless 410 sprints offer a thrill a minute and in fact, most fans will tell you that USAC sprint time trials at Grandview are worth the price of admission. Making this show a double wingless madness event will be the ARDC Wingless Midgets.

Thunder on the Hill will reach its' historic 100th event on Tuesday night, June 28 and in fitting style, the 410 Sprints will headline this show joined by the 358 Modifieds. Plenty of surprises are planned in what will be a huge celebration.

Wednesday night, August 3rd the Thunder Series will present the fifteenth consecutive Big Block Modified TRAFFIC JAM, this year going 60 laps, paying $5,000 to win and the event will be sanctioned by the (ROC) Race of Champions. This ROC on the Hill event will double up with the always exciting sportsman stock cars. Let's not forget that exciting 2010 TRAFFIC JAM when Craig VonDohren beat the invaders in what could very well be, the best modified race of 2010.

The Thunder Series will close out the season with their annual House of Thunder Halloween Party on Saturday, October 15 at 6 PM. This always big and sometimes spooky event will be loaded with tricks and treats. This show salutes the success of Thunder on the Hill presenting its showcase divisions to include the 358 Modifieds, URC Sprints, ARDC Wingless Midgets, Sportsman and Legend cars along with the Garden State Vintage Stock Cars and the Monster Smash Demo Derby. An added attraction will be the Vince's Towing Legend Owners Race.

The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series is a co-promotion between Grandview Speedway track owner Bruce Rogers and special events promoter Bob Miller.
