TITLES UP FOR GRABS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY IN 2011
BECHTELSVILLE, PA February 10, 2011 . . . The championships at Grandview Speedway, which is kicking off their 49th consecutive season this year, are up for grabs to the racers that can perform consistently, stay out of trouble, win a few races and, of course tally up the most points. There are lucrative rewards waiting for the title winners in both the Modifieds and Late Models in 2011.
In the NASCAR 358 Modifieds, the primary division of racing on Saturday nights on the one-third-mile, banked clay oval, there is a long list of racing talent that should be in the thick of the battle for the end of season track championship and NASCAR rewards.
Oley, PA’s Duane Howard will be back to defend his 2010 championship in the 358 Modified division. The four time champion will again be in a BPG Racing Troyer race car owned by Blue Bell, PA businessman Chad Sinon. Howard and Sinon ran away with the title last year.
In addition to the Grandview title the BPG Racing team also earned the PA State NASCAR title, finished third in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series National standings, and won the first American Racer Cup Modified title worth $10,000. They had eight feature wins in the NASCAR sanctioned competition at Grandview.
Eight time champion Jeff Strunk (Bechtelsville) will be in a new mount as he will be driving the Norm’s Save Station Troyer race car owned by Norm Hansell. The duo will be looking to win a ninth title for Strunk and a first title for long time car owner Hansell. The 2010 season was a disappointment for Strunk as he was shut out of victory lane and had to settle for second in the final standings.
Six time champion Craig VonDohren (Boyertown) will be back looking for a seventh title in his Pioneer Pole Building/Kauffman’s Chicken entry. The veteran racer managed to win seven regular season features at Grandview but had to settle for fourth in the final 2010 standings.
Garden State racer Ryan Godown will be back looking for a title driving for the Johnny Rea team out of Reading, PA. Godown, a third place finisher in the point battle, had one feature win.
Others considered possible contenders for the lucrative championship include Mike Gular (Green Lane), Doug Manmiller (Shoemakersville), BPG Racing Freedom 76 winner Meme DeSantis (Temple), Kevin Hirthler (Boyertown) in a BPG Racing owned entry, John Willman (Birdsboro), Terry Meitzler (Kutztown), Jon Kellner Sr. (Lansdale) and others. Several young talents are considered possible title contenders including Kyle Follweiler (Slatington), Addison Meitzler (Kutstown), Brad Missimerr (Bechtelsville) plus several newcomers.
It is anyone’s guess as to who will be take home the championship awards for the NASCAR 358 Modifieds in 2011.
The 2011 season at Grandview Speedway kicks off with a free-to-the-public practice session, open to all divisions of racing, on Saturday, March 26th at 12 noon.
Officially the chase for the title for both the NASCAR Whelen All American Series 358 Modifieds and Late Models gets the green at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 2nd.
Season tickets priced at $300 are available, with a reserved seat, by sending your check to Grandview Speedway, 87 Wilt Road, Bechtelsville, PA 19505. Please include a self addressed stamped envelope. The season pass covers all Saturday night events through until the end of September.
The NEETS Enduro Racing action will be featured on at least seven Sundays, with a possible eighth date included, starting on Sunday, April 3rd at 2 p.m. New for this year is the addition of “The Outlaw Slinger Series” featuring the Slingshot racers as a second part of the NEETS Enduro promotions.
For the 22nd season Bruce Rogers and Bob Miller will present the “Thunder on the Hill Series” featuring midweek racing action. The first event, of five scheduled, will be presented on Wednesday, May 25th and feature the Keystone Cup 410 Sprints and 358 Modifieds.
