GLENN STRUNK AND MIKE KELLNER WIN OPEN COMP EVENTS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 26, 2010 . . . A Strunk was in victory lane at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night and it was not eight time NASCAR Whelen Series champion Jeff Strunk. The win in the 30-lap feature for Open Competition Modifieds went to Glenn Strunk, Jeff’s younger brother. Mike Kellner ran away and hid from the rest of the field in the 20-lap Open Competition Late Model feature.

Driving the Vince’s Automotive & Towing sponsored No. 41c Modified, a second car to his brother Jeff’s mount, Glenn (Bechtelsville) was able to grab the lead early and lead all the laps on the way to the win and the $2,200 first place money. The victory was the first for young Strunk, often called “the professor,” since August 2001. Glenn had only run about a half dozen events since making his return to the sport after walking away several years back.

The race winner had high praise for his older brother and thanked him for getting him back into racing.

Second spot went to Jeff Strunk (Bechtelsville) having come from 11th starting spot and was closing on the leader at the finish. Jeff missed out on winning a feature at Grandview during the 2010 season for the first time in many years. Third place was earned by Mike Gular (Green Lane) who had run second early in the event and had challenged the leader. Kevin Hirthler (Boyertown) grabbed fourth with a strong effort in the closing laps while Danny Erb (Boyertown) made it to the top five after starting 15th.

Randy Stoudt was quick to take command of the 20-lap Late Model feature but Mike Kellner, running the high groove, took the lead on the 11th circuit of the one-third-mile, banked clay track and never looked back. The Lansdale racer had a huge lead at the finish to grab his sixth win of the season with the Power Wash/Watash Speed Shop No. 57. Finishing second was Randy Stoudt (Pottstown) followed by Sean Merkel (Gilbertsville) making what may have been his first start in a Late Model. Ron Kline (Salford) challenged early for the lead but dropped back to finish fourth while Bill Henning (Lansdale), making what may have been his last run in Late Model competition, finished fifth.

Qualifying heats for the Late Models were won by Randy Stoudt and Mike Kellner. The top spot in the three qualifying heat races for the Modifieds went to Brad Missimer, Glenn Strunk and John Willman.

The Cargo Trailer Sales $50 gift certificates went to Mike Mamana in the Modifieds and Luke Hoffner in the Late Models. Dan’s Deli Halfway Leader Awards were earned by Randy Stoudt in the Late Models and Glenn Strunk in the Modifieds.

The doubleheader show closed out the regular Saturday schedule of Modifieds and Late Models for the 2010 season. Next event is set for Saturday, October 2nd at 1 p.m. featuring the NEETS Enduro racers. Then on Saturday, October 16th, 6 p.m. the Halloween Party Thunder on the Hill Series will feature 358 Modifieds, ARDC Midgets, URC Sprints, Sportsman and Legends cars. Extra added attractions will include a Monster Smash Demo Derby, Garden State Vintage Racers and an Old Timers event.
