Kyle Hieber Runs Perfect Race To Win Slingshot 30; A.J. Gerhart Tops Junior Slingshot Main During 139th Annual Kutztown Fair



KUTZTOWN, PA - Kyle Hieber of Langhorne, Pa., ran a perfect race Thursday night at the Fairgrounds at Kutztown Speedway.



Hieber, who made only selected Kutztown starts in 2010, led from start-to-finish in the 30-lap All-Star Slingshot PA Dutch Classic to wrap up three consecutive nights of racing at the one-fifth-mile oval during the 139th annual Kutztown Fair. Hieber earned $1,000 for his efforts in the EZ Release Pro Shop/Duffer's Beer Distributors/Kim's Kreations-sponsored event.



Shannon Smith of Kunkletown, Pa., meanwhile, was the victor of the RPM New & Used Slinger Parts 'Ktown Challenge' featuring one-on-one match races for the Slingshots. Smith defeated Travis Bieber in the final round for the $125 top prize.



Hieber started the extra-distance event from the pole position following time trials and two sets of heat races to determine the starting order. Despite several restarts, Hieber never faced a serious challenge, maintaining a steady advantage out front.



Shannon Smith and Simon Egan, who started second and third, respectively, maintained their positions for the entire distance. 2010 track champion Mike Glass placed fourth and wingless 600cc Micro-Sprint star Brett Michalski, driving a second Hieber car, was fifth after starting 10th.



Kurt Bettler of Hellertown, Pa., earned the $25 XS Energy Drink Fast Time Award, clocking in at 13.910 seconds.



Heat winners, receiving $35 each from Kim's Kreations, were Shannon Smith, Cody Kline, Kyle Hieber, Jordan Henn, Brad Arnold and Simon Egan. Matt Massone annexed the 15-lap B-Main.



The $50 Christman's Meats Hard Luck Award went to dirt Modified racer Ricky Yetter while the

Smith defeated Travis Bieber to earn top billing in the RPM New & Used Slinger Parts 'Ktown Challenge' winning just the final round when she was challenged by Bieber. Brett Bieber won the first seven rounds, earning $175 ($25 per round). Jordan Henn and Travis Bieber each scored one round win.



The 'Ktown Challenge' was sponsored by RPM New & Used Slinger Parts, Super Clear Tearoffs, Nancy's Computer Repair, Christman's Meats, Strapped In Magazine and Miller MS Clutch Re-lining.



A.J. Gerhart of Myerstown, Pa., won a competitive 20-lap Junior Slingshot headliner. Gerhart survived a wild lap-18 lapped traffic encounter that allowed both Chris Kurtz and Louden Reimert lead momentarily to post the victory. Kurtz, Reimert, Tyler Dippel and Danny Buccafusca completed the front five.



Gerhart also set the night's fast time with a lap of 14.251 seconds and received a $25 gift certificate from Speedway Entertainment. Chris Kurtz and Louden Reimert won the heats.

FAIRGROUNDS FODDER: A field of 33 All-Star Slingshots and 10 Junior Slingshots took part in the event, run before a large fair crowd. Mike Glass and T.J. Lilly were recognized for their All-Star and Junior track championships during intermission....



Kim's Kreations donated $100 off a lettering job to the last car running in the 30-lap All-Star main. C.R. Hill was the recipient. Kim's Kreations 'goodie bags' went to Cody Kline (seventh), Brad Arnold (10th) and Colin White (17th). $25 Speedway Entertainment gift certificates were awarded to Ben Rabenold and Anthony Schlosser. NAPA of Flemington, N.J., gift bags went to Ben Whitaker and Travis Bieber....
