Howard Wins Sixth While Shuey Wins First At Grandview Speedway

HOWARD WINS SIXTH WHILE SHUEY WINS FIRST AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 22, 2010 . . . For the sixth time this season Duane Howard was able to wheel the BPG Racing No. 4 to victory in the 30-lap 3 Starz Landscaping NASCAR 358 Modified feature race on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway. In the 20-lap main event for the Late Models Brian Shuey, the current point leader in that division, was able to get his first win of the season bringing the Bob Fisher Chevy No. 5x home first.

Young Mike Laise set the pace at the start. With four laps in the 30-lap Modified feature Meme DeSantis brought out the caution stopping in the second turn. On the restart Jon Kellner Jr. went to the front and held the top spot until late in the race when Duane Howard was able to take the top spot, after starting in 16th spot, and go on to get the win. Craig VonDohren held off Ryan Godown for second with Jon Kellner Jr. holding on for fourth followed by his father Jon Kellner Sr.

In the Late Model feature John Giesler, a past champion, led until the 14th lap when Brian Shuey, coming from 9th starting spot, took the lead and went on to win. Second spot was earned by Chuck Schutz followed by Mike Kellner, John Giesler and Nate Christman.

Just three more Saturday night point events remain for the NASCAR 358 Modifieds and Late Models and the first of those three nights happens on Saturday, August 28th. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. RCN-TV will be the sponsor of the night and it will be a Dover International Speedway Promo Night with a tire changing competition and some free tickets given away.

FULL RACE RESULTS STORY

NASCAR POINT LEADERS HOWARD AND SHUEY GET THE FEATURE WINS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 22, 2010 . . . “It has been an awesome year,” said Duane Howard in victory lane at Grandview Speedway after winning his sixth NASCAR 358 Modified feature race of the season on Saturday night. “We have a chance to win some big money in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Nationals and in the American Race Tire Cup. The year is paying off for us.”

Howard had just been able to hold off six time track champion Craig VonDohren to claim the win in the 3 Starz Landscaping sponsored 30-lap feature race and was able to celebrate in victory lane with his car owner Chad Sinon who was on hand for just his second race of the season.

Brian Shuey was able to wheel the Bob Fisher Chevy No. 5x to victory in the 20-lap main event for the Late Models. It was the first win of the season for Shuey who is the current point leader in the chase for the Late Model title.

In the closing laps of the 30-lapper for the 358 Modifieds Craig VonDohren tried to make a battle of it but had his hands full holding off Ryan Godown for second spot while Howard pulled away with the BPG Racing No. 4 to claim the $2,200 first place money and expand his point lead as he continues to hold the number one spot in the point standings. The Oley racer had a comfortable lead when the checkered flag fell. Von Dohren (Boyertown), winner of seven Saturday night 358 Modified features, just nosed out Ryan Godown (Ringoes, NJ) for the second spot. Early race leader Jon Kellner Jr. (Lansdale), taking the lead on the fourth circuit from Mike Laise, led most of the feature laps, and managed to hold on for fourth spot while his dad, Jon Kellner Sr. (Lansdale) came on strong in the closing laps to finish fifth.

Unlike the previous week when there were only two cautions in the 50 lap Forrest Rogers Memorial, there were a number of cautions that slowed the pace of the race.

John Giesler set the pace at the start of the 20-lap Late Model feature and looked like he just might get his first win in a number of years. The past champion, from Aston, PA, set the pace right up to the 14th circuit of the one third mile clay track when Brian Shuey was able to charge to the front. The Shoemakersville racer, the current Late Model point leader, was able to hold on to the top spot for the balance of the feature race. Second spot went to Chuck Schutz (Pottstown) followed by Mike Kellner (Lansdale), Giesler and Nate Christman (Oley).

In victory lane Shuey said, “We have been pulling our hair out, plugging away, making small changes all season in an effort to win. It was a good run for us tonight.” He did have high praise for engine builder Larry Lombardo as the team celebrated their victory.

Qualifying heat races for the Late Models were won by Chuck Schutz and Ron Kline while the qualifying events in the NASCAR 358 Modified division were won by Glenn Owens, Jon Kellner Sr., Troy Wink and Brad Missimer. The consolation race wins went to Mike Gular and Jason Hamilton.

The Dan’s Deli Halfway Leader Awards went to John Giesler in the Late Models and Jon Kellner Jr. in the 358 Modifieds. Cargo Trailer Sales $50 gift certificates were presented to Modified 10th place finisher Billy Pauch Jr. and Late Model 10th place finisher D.D. Keely.

RCN-TV will sponsor the doubleheader night of racing action on Saturday, August 28th at 7:30 p.m. with the NASCAR 358 Modifieds and Late Models be featured. Dover International Speedway will host a tire changing competition with free NASCAR tickets given away.

Coming on Saturday, September 18th is the biggest event of the season when the BPG Racing Freedom 76 for 358 Modifieds is presented.
