FULL RACE RESULTS STORY

VONDOHREN AND SCHUTZ SHARE VICTORY LANE AT GRANDVIEW ON A VERY HOT NIGHT

BECHTELSVILLE, PA July 25, 2010 . . . “Hot” described the weather and the action on the track at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night as Craig VonDohren was able to win his seventh NASCAR Whelen 358 Modified feature of the season and Chuck Schutz took the honors in the NASCAR Late Model feature for the fourth time this year in what could only be labeled as the hottest weather seen in a long time with temperatures well into the nineties. It was all part of Hatfield Quality Meats Night.

As he climbed out of the car in victory lane, VonDohren summed things up in one word, “Hot.” He was referring to the weather but he could have been summing up the action on the track as he came from 13th starting spot to claim the victory in the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen 358 Modified feature race at the wheel of the Felty Farms No.1C.

Schutz told the fans from victory lane “that the oil gauge was pegged and the engine temperature was 260 degrees. He thought about pulling in.” However the Late Model point leader stayed on the track with the BPG Racing No.1 and rode to victory from his number nine starting position.

The entire 11 event show was run off in less than 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Jeremy Banos had the front spot at the start of the 30-lap Modified feature with A.J. DeSantis right on his rear. For the first ten laps it stayed that way with Keith Brightbill able to take over second to the hard charging Banos on the 11th circuit. The top three, Banos, Brightbill and DeSantis stayed the same until the 20th lap when DeSantis took second and on the next circuit he moved in front of the field.

Four laps later VonDohren was able to take the lead after battling with DeSantis for a couple of laps. Duane Howard was quick to move to second spot after working his way up from 15th starting position.

At the finish VonDohren (Boyertown) picked up the $2,200 first place money followed by point leader Duane Howard (Oley) taking second. A.J. DeSantis (Temple) got his best finish of the season with a third followed by Mike Gular (Green Lane) and Ryan Godown (Ringoes).

The 20-lap Late Model feature had Kurt Spotts leading the first lap before spinning on the second circuit giving the lead to Danny Snyder. The top spot belonged to Snyder for nine laps before Brian Shuey took control with Chuck Schutz right behind. On the 18th circuit Shuey and Schutz ran side-by-side with Schutz getting the edge and leading the final two circuits of the one-third-mile, banked clay track. Schutz (Pottstown0 was just a narrow margin in front of second place Brian Shuey (Shoemakersville) followed by Ron Kline (Salford), Mike Kellner (Lansdale) and Danny Snyder (East Greenville).

Qualifying heat wins for the Late Models, each eight laps, went to Mike Kellner, Ron Kline and Chuck Schutz. In the Modifieds the four 12-lap qualifying races were won by Glenn Owens, Danny Erb, Jeremy Banos and Duane Howard. The consolations, each 10 laps, went to Jon Kellner Sr. and Kevin Hirthler.

The Cargo Trailer Sales 10th place awards, $50 gift certificates, went to Kevin Hirthler in the Modifieds and John Favinger in the Late Models. The Dan’s Deli Halfway Awards were won by Danny Snyder in the Late Models and Jeremy Banos in the Modifieds.

Coming up on Saturday, July 31st is the first appearance of the Steel Block Bandits Late Models (including the Grandview Speedway late models) and the Sportsman stock cars. It will be FAN APPRECIATION NIGHT with adults admitted for just $10, children 6 thru 11 paying $3 and kids under 6 admitted FREE.
