SHORT STORY
VONDOHREN WINS FIFTH AT GRANDVIEW, STOUDT GETS SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON
Bechtelsville, PA June 27, 2010... Coming from 23rd starting spot Craig VonDohren was able to wheel his Felty Farms No. 1C to victory in the 30-lap Don Marks Memorial presented by BPG Racing NASCAR 358 Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. Randy Stoudt was able to charge from 15th to take the win in the 20-lap NASCAR Late Model feature race.
Jeremy Banos set the early pace for the 28 starters in the Modified feature with Jason Smythe charging to the front on the fourth circuit. At nine laps Jon Kellner Sr. was in charge and held the top spot until the 20th circuit when a two car tangle brought out the caution and closed up the field.
On the restart Craig VonDohren was able to scoot by Kellner Sr. to get the top spot and go on to win the $2,200 first place money for his fifth Saturday night win of the season. Duane Howard came on to finish second followed by Kellner Sr., Kevin Hirthler and Mike Gular.
Nate Christman led the early laps of the 20-lap feature for the Late Models with Ron Kline going to the front on the sixth lap. At 13 laps Mike Kellner was in front of the field and looked to be on his way to his second win of the season. With two laps remaining Kellner got wide in two and that allowed the challengers to shuffle around with Randy Stoudt coming out on top and leading the rest of the way. Second spot went to Mike Kellner followed by Ron Kline, Chuck Schutz and Nate Christman.
NASCAR Whelen 358 Modifieds and Late Models are in action on Saturday, July 3rd with the Late Models in the spotlight racing in the Firecracker 40 paying $5,000 to win. That is their premier event of the season. The 7:30 p.m. show, sponsored by C.J. High & Associates LLC, will also feature a great FIREWORKS display. FULL RACE RESULTS STORY
CRAIG VONDOHREN AND RANDY STOUDT WIN BPG RACING DON MARKS MEMORIAL NIGHT FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW
BECHTELSVILLE, PA June 27, 2010 . . . “I found the top worked though I could have stuck it (the race car) in the fence anytime,” said Craig VonDohren in victory lane after winning the 30-lap BPG Racing Don Marks Memorial NASCAR 358 Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. “It was a good car. We are not points racing, we come here every week looking to win.” And win he did for the fifth time this season he was able to take home the $2,200 top prize on a Saturday night. Randy Stoudt was able to drive the No. 610 Late Model, owned by his uncle Jim, to his second win of the season in the 20-lap NASCAR Late Model feature.
Jeremy Banos took the lead on the drop of the green for the 28-car Modified feature starting field. Banos held on to the top spot until the fourth circuit when Jason Smythe was able to take the lead. With nine circuits completed Jon Kellner Sr went to the front and looked as if he was on his way to ending a long victory dry spell. At 17 laps VonDohren, who had started in 23rd position, was now a factor and putting some heavy pressure on the leader. A few laps later, after a caution restart, VonDohren (Boyertown) was able to charge to the front and lead the rest of the way to grab the win his 76th regular career victory at the Berks County oval.
Duane Howard, the current NASCAR 358 Modified point leader, finished second. The Oley racer started 21st in the 28 car feature field. Jon Kellner Sr. (Lansdale) finished third after a strong showing with the Banes Roofing No. 20. Kevin Hirthler (Boyertown) finished in fourth followed by Mike Gular (East Greenville).
A first lap caution wiped out two of the pre-race favorites with Randall Paxton and Danny Snyder going to the pits after a front straightaway tangle. On the restart Nate Christman went to the front with three feature winner Ron Kline moving to second spot to challenge early. On the sixth lap point leader Brian Shuey was involved in a first turn incident that put him out of action and on the restart Ron Kline was the leader.
With 13 laps in the record book Mike Kellner charged to the front and looked as if he was on the way to his second win of the season. With just two laps remaining Kellner got caught on the outside in turn two and that allowed Randy Stoudt to go to the front and lead the rest of the way for his second win of the season.
In victory lane Stoudt (Pottstown) pointed out that the car he was driving was actually a car he had owned and sold to his uncle. It was a car that he had driven to about 30 wins when it carried the number 22.
Second spot went to Mike Kellner (Lansdale) followed by Ron Kline (Salford), Chuck Schutz (Pottstown) and Nate Christman (Oley).
Brian Shuey continues to lead the Late Model point standings by just three points over past champion Chuck Schutz.
Qualifying heat wins for the 358 Modifieds were won by Todd Smith, Jordan Umbenhauer, Mike Gular and Ryan Godown. The consolations were won by Duane Howard, topping Craig VonDohren, and Kyle Follweiler.
