Steady Rain Forces Kutztown To Cancel Wednesday Night's Program
KUTZTOWN, PA - A steady, soaking rain prompted the cancellation of Wednesday night's racing program at the Fairgrounds at Kutztown Speedway.
With rain already falling and an ominous forecast for the evening, promoter Kerry Meitzler pulled the plug by early afternoon, saving teams and fans unnecessary travel time.
Racing resumes next Wednesday (June 16) with wingless 600cc Micro-Sprints, 270cc Micro-Sprints, Slingshots and Junior Slingshots in action. Then, on June 23, the Young Gun 390s replace the Junior Slingshots as the fourth division on the card. For the Young Guns, it will mark the first appearance of 2010 at the one-fifth-mile oval in the shadows of Kutztown University.
The speedway is silent for two consecutive Wednesdays (June 30 and July 7) for the PA German Festival on the fairgrounds property. The full 2010 schedule is posted on the Web at http://www.kutztownfairspeedway.com/.
Weather cooperated with speedway management with four consecutive weeks to open the season. Emerging as point leaders are Jeff Hartman (wingless 600cc Micro), Richie Hartman (270cc Micro), Shannon Smith (Slingshot) and T.J. Lilly (Junior Slingshot).
Gates open at 4 p.m., with practice at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. Grandstand admission for 2010 is as follows: Adults -$8; Students (10-17)/Seniors/Kutztown Residents with ID - $5; Kids under 10 - FREE. Pit admission is $20 (no membership required) and car registration is $20.
