SHORT STORY RESULTS

HOWARD AND SCHUTZ GET FIRST NASCAR WINS OF THE SEASON AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

Bechtelsville, PA May 30, 2010 . . . Duane Howard came from 24th starting spot in the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All American Series 358 Modified feature race on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway and took the BPG Racing/Troyer Race Cars No. 4 to his first win of the season at the Berks County clay oval. The 20-lap main event for the Late Models was won by Chuck Schutz, driving the BPG Racing No. 1, for his first win of the season.

Early Modified race action had Jeff Sechrist surviving a few early race cautions to lead for the first four laps. At the fifth circuit Todd Marburger went to the front looking to grab his first career feature victory. On the 12th lap eight time champion Jeff Strunk went to the pits done for the night and Duane Howard charged to the front of the field. Just a lap later Jon Kellner Sr. was in front and a side by side battle developed between Kellner and Howard. At the 23 lap marker Howard was back in front to stay and went on to grab the $2200 first place money and increase his lead in the chase for the NASCAR 358 Modified title. Kellner Sr. held on for second followed by Ryan Godown, Ray Swinehart and Meme DeSantis.

T.J. Mayberry, a rookie competitor, led the 25 car Late Model feature starting field for just the first lap before Mike Kellner charged to the front.. Kellner looked like he was going to be able to take home the top prize until Chuck Schutz moved into a challenging position with half the race completed. At 14 laps Schutz went to the front and stayed for the balance of the 20-lap event. Second spot went to Mike Kellner followed by Danny Snyder, Randall Paxton and Ron Kline.

The United States Auto Club Wingless Sprints are in action at Grandview on Tuesday, June 1st starting at 7:30 p.m. The ARDC Wingless Midgets will be the second part of the show.

Then on Saturday, June 5th the NASCAR 358 Modifieds and Late Models will be featured in a doubleheader show sponsored by Rastelli Direct with a 7:30 p.m. starting time.

FULL RACE RESULTS STORY

HOWARD AND SCHUTZ EARN FIRST NASCAR WINS OF THE SEASON AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA May 30, 2010 . . . For the seventh time this season a different driver took a win in the NASCAR 358 Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night as point leader Duane Howard was able to bring the BPG Racing/Troyer Race Cars No. 4 home first after starting 24th. In the 20-lap Late Model feature race Chuck Schutz drove the BPG Racing No. 1 to his first win of the season becoming the fifth different winner.

In victory lane, where he was greeted by the resounding sound of boos from the holiday weekend crowd, Howard said, “We are back on our game. Maybe we should start at the rear in all the feature races.” Howard had finished second the previous week after starting at the rear. Due to problems in his qualifying heat race Howard was forced to go to a backup car to qualify through a consolation race. “This is not our favorite car.” was the comment from Howard as he was celebrating his win.

Jeff Sechrist set the pace in the early laps surviving a number of cautions including one that saw the previous week’s feature winner Kevin Hirthler ending his night against the fourth turn wall after contact with Doug Manmiller. Todd Marburger, who battles Muscular Dystrophy, put this mount in front of the field on the fifth lap. At 12 laps Jeff Strunk created a caution as he slowed on the backstretch and headed to the pits. Back out before the green flag fell Strunk made another run to the pits during an ensuing caution and did not return. Duane Howard, charging from 24th starting spot, took the lead on the restart and just one lap later Jon Kellner Sr. was in front of the field. Howard continued to challenge Kellner and on the 23rd lap Howard was able to take the front spot and hold it until the checkered flag. The Oley resident took home $2,200 for his winning efforts and retained his point lead in the chase for the lucrative NASCAR 358 Grandview Speedway Modified title.

Second spot went to Jon Kellner Sr. (Lansdale) followed by Ryan Godown (Ringoes, NJ), Ray Swinehart (Perkiomenville) and Meme DeSantis (Temple).

Rookie T.J. Mayberry, his dad Tom a winner of more than 30 Modified features at Grandview, led the 25 car starting field to the green in the 20-lap Late Model feature but Mike Kellner was quick to grab the top spot. With seven laps in the record book past champion Chuck Schutz charged into second spot and put the pressure on the leader. At 14 laps Schutz (Pottstown) took charge and led the rest of the way to earn his first victory of the season. Mike Kellner (Lansdale) grabbed second followed by Danny Snyder (Green Lane), Randall Paxton Jr. (Factoryville) and Ron Kline (Salford).

A happy Schutz in victory lane said, “The car was pretty good and the track was good so we could run the top or bottom. Things are better now.” Schutz had been shut out of victory lane in the early season. The win put him in front of the point standings as he goes after another Late Model championship.

Qualifying heat victories, each event 12 laps, in the NASCAR 358 Modifieds, 47 Modifieds trying for starting spots in the 28 car feature race, were earned by Jason Hamilton, Jeff Sechrist, Todd Marburger, and Andy Burkhart. Ten lap consolation race wins for the Modifieds went to Ray Swinehart and Jeff Strunk. In the Late Model division, 25 cars trying for the 24 starting spots in the 20 lap feature, eight lap qualifying heats were won by Chuck Schutz, Randall Paxton Jr. and Mike Kellner.

The Dan’s Deli Halfway Leader Awards went to Mike Kellner in the Late Models and Jon Kellner Sr. in the Modifieds. Cargo Trailer Sales gift certificates went to 10th place finishers Wayne Pfeil Jr. in the Late Models and Carroll Hine III in Late Models.

United States Auto Club Wingless Sprint cars will be in action at Grandview on Tuesday, June 1st at 7:30 p.m. The ARDC Wingless Midgets will be part of the doubleheader show.

Then on Saturday, June 5th at 7:30 p.m. the NASCAR 358 Modifieds and Late Models continue with their action packed events. The night will be sponsored by Rastelli Direct, a new sponsor joining the family of sponsors that are using NASCAR motorsports to grow their businesses.
