Rick Laubach Ready To Hit The Road For Penn Can 'Clash at the Can' Event; First 'Super Summer Series' Kicks Off June 8 With "No BS. No Politics. Real Racing."

SUSQUEHANNA, PA - Rick Laubach, the defending New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway big-block Modified champion, isn't afraid to take his talents on the road.

On June 8, the Quakertown, Pa., driver known as the 'Quaker Shaker' will head northbound, destination Penn Can (Pa.) Speedway, to compete in the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour 'Clash at the Can' - a co-promotion between Brett Deyo and Penn Can's management team of Reed Miller and Al Wilcox.

The Tuesday-night, 60-lap event is one half of the 'Super Summer Series' at the Susquehanna, Pa., clay oval. The second event will take place on Tuesday night, Aug. 10. The 'Super Summer Series' is a mini-series within the nine-race RoC Dart Dirt Modified Tour paying $1,000 to the champion. The series returns Modified racing to its roots with "No BS. No Politics. Real Racing."

The two races will feature similar formats for the RoC-sanctioned big-block/small-block Modifieds: 60 laps paying $4,000 to the winner, plus a $1,000 "gambler's fee" bonus for drivers rolling the dice and paying an extra $20 at sign-in. A $5,000 payday for a 60-lap race has turned heads across the region.

Laubach heads to the 'Clash at the Can' with a guaranteed starting spot for the feature via his April 17 Tri-Track victory at New Egypt Speedway. However, Laubach has shown speed in select Penn Can appearances - including a Memorial Day Weekend triumph at the Can in 2007 - and doesn't plan to put that tail-end feature spot to use.

"We'll definitely be there," Laubach said. "It's a good-paying race with no conflicts on our schedule. I've had some good runs at Penn Can in the past, so I'm looking forward to it."

Laubach will mount sail panels on the famed yellow No. 5 owned by New Jersey car owner Dieter Schmidt for the Penn Can event. Schmidt's Lincoln Auto Body race cars have enjoyed success with many of the sport's marquee drivers over the years.

"I'm doing some specials with Dieter this year," Laubach said. "His car is a good fit for that show."

Laubach is a weekly racer at Big Diamond (Pa.) and New Egypt, while attending the majority of high-profile specials in New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Penn Can's three-eighths-mile layout means money, fresh rubber and horsepower don't guarantee success, making the 'Super Summer Series' events favorable to low-dollar, weekly teams.

No conflicts on the dirt Modified calendar will allow the touring series stars and Pennsylvania/New Jersey teams to invade the facility. The makings of an all-star field are in place.

Running under the RoC banner brings along the touring group's followers, as well. A field of 56 358-Modifieds and 64 big-block Mods took part in the recent RoC opening weekend at Selinsgrove (Pa.) Speedway.

With a posted $28,000 point fund for the '10 RoC series and Lias Tire of Indiana, Pa., offering incentives for drivers running American Racer facilities via its rich $100,000 American Racer Cup, strong support is expected for the entire RoC circuit this summer.

Rain dates have been put into place for both events. Should the June 8 'Clash at the Can' fall to rain, it will be run on June 9. The Aug. 10 'Hot Summer Night' moves to Aug. 11 in the event of wet weather.

The '10 'Super Summer Series' is presented by Don's Automotive Mall, Gary's U-Pull-It, Reading Plastic Fabricators, G&G Used Auto Parts, Puzo's Collision, Jim Young Race Photos and Trackside Products.

Sponsorship opportunities, including product and contingency awards, remain available for the 'Super Summer Series' at Penn Can.

About the 'Super Summer Series'

Special events promoter Brett Deyo has partnered with Penn Can Speedway co-promoters Reed Miller and Al Wilcox for a pair of 'Super Summer Series' midweek races at the Susquehanna, Pa., clay oval.

The first event, dubbed the 'Clash at the Can' is set for Tuesday night, June 8. The 60-lap big-block/small-block Modified race will offer a $4,000 top prize plus a $1,000 bonus should the winning driver take the $20 "Gambler's Fee" option. Doug Borger's XCel 600 Modifieds and the RoC Street Stocks will serve as the support divisions.

The second race, assuming the 'Hot Summer Night' moniker, is scheduled for Tuesday night, Aug. 10 with a similar format: 60 laps, $4,000 to the winner plus an additional $1,000 should the winner post the "Gambler's Fee." The 'Late Model Challenge' will fill out the program.

Point standings will be tabulated for the 'Super Summer Series' races. The champion of the series will earn $1,000 with contingency awards presented to others. Drivers must attempt to qualify for both events to be eligible for awards.

Both Modified events will be points-paying races on the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour, running under RoC rules. The events will include fuel stops (if necessary) for cars running methanol. Sail panels will be permitted for 'Super Summer Series' RoC events.

Rain dates have been put into place for both events. Should the June 8 'Clash at the Can' fall to rain, it will be run on June 9. The Aug. 10 'Hot Summer Night' moves to Aug. 11 in the event of wet weather.
