SHORT STORY

RYAN GODOWN AND RANDY STOUDT TAKE NASCAR WINS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

Bechtelsville, PA April 11, 2010 . . . “The car goes wherever I point it,” said Ryan Godown in the Grandview Speedway victory lane on Saturday night. “Good things are happening. I got to give credit to the crew. They gave me a great car.” Godown was celebrating his victory in the 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All American Series 358 Modified feature that had earned him $4,000. Randy Stoudt took the top honors in the companion 20-lapper for the Late Model stock cars.

Jarred Miller set the early pace leading the 28 car starting field for the 40-lap 358 Modified feature. At six laps Mike Laise went to the front and just two laps later Craig VonDohren was on top. With 12 laps in the record book VonDohren had a huge lead on the field but a caution closed up the field and on the restart Mike Laise was able to lead for just one lap. VonDohren got back in front with 14 laps completed and set the pace until the 24 lap marker when a caution for a two car tangle on the backstretch brought out the caution. VonDohren had smoke pouring out the back of his Felty Farms No.1c and took the car to the pits giving the lead to Ryan Godown.

Once in front Godown set the pace for the balance of the race. At the finish the Ringoes, NJ racer had a comfortable lead over second place Kyle Follweiler (Slatington) followed by Jeff Strunk (Mohnton), Billy Pauch Jr. (Frenchtown, NJ) and Duane Howard (Oley).

The 20-lap Late Model feature took a while to get going with no less than three cautions before the race had one lap completed. Once everyone settled down Randy Stoudt (Pottstown) took control and was able to lead from start to finish to get the win. Second spot went to Randall Paxton followed by defending champion Brian Shuey, Bill Henning and Kurt Spotts.

RYAN GODOWN AND RANDY STOUDT TAKE NASCAR WINS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

Bechtelsville, PA April 11, 2010 . . . "The car goes wherever I point it," said Ryan Godown in the Grandview Speedway victory lane on Saturday night. "Good things are happening. I got to give credit to the crew. They gave me a great race car." Godown was celebrating his victory in the 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All American Series 358 Modified feature that had earned him $4,000 and giving great praise to the crew of the Norm Hansell owned Norm’s Save Station #357 in victory lane. Randy Stoudt took the top honors in the companion 20-lapper for the Late Model stock cars wheeling his self-owned TP Trailers No. 10 to his 52nd career victory and giving him the early season point lead in the chase for the Late Model title.

Jarred Miller set the early pace leading the 28 car starting field in the 40-lap 358 Modified feature. At six laps Mike Laise went to the front and just two laps later Craig VonDohren was on top. With 12 laps in the record book VonDohren had a huge lead on the field but a caution closed up the field and on the restart Mike Laise was able to charge to the lead for just one lap.

The battle for positions second through fifth had fans on the edge of their seats in the closing laps and helped warm them as chilly weather set in.

The 20-lap Late Model feature took a while to get going with no less than three cautions including one for a lengthy fuel leak situation on the Chuck Schutz entry before the race had one lap completed. Once everyone settled down Randy Stoudt (Pottstown) took control and was able to lead from start to finish to get the win and move closer to catching Jon Kellner Sr.’s record 58 career Late Model wins. Second spot went to Randall Paxton in his best effort since becoming a regular at the Bechtelsville oval, followed by defending Late Model champion Brian Shuey (Shoemakersville), Bill Henning (Lansdale) and Kurt Spotts (Pennsburg).

Qualifying heats for the 358 Modifieds were won by newcomer Jarred Miller, six time Modified champion Craig VonDohren, past champion Terry Meitzler and Kevin Hirthler. Consolation victories went to Mike Gular and Meme DeSantis.

John Favinger was impressive in his Late Model qualifying heat win while Ron Kline had a strong showing winning his qualifying heat but was an early casualty in the feature race.

The Cargo Trailer Sales Award, a $50 gift certificate for the tenth place finishers went to T.J. Mayberry in the Late Models and Shawn Reimert in the Modifieds. Midway leaders in each feature earn Dan Deli’s Awards and they went to Craig VonDohren in the Modifieds and Randy Stoudt in the Late Models.

Auto racing action returns to the Grandview Speedway on Saturday, April 17th at 7 p.m. with the "Topless Truckin‘ 20" for Late Models and NASCAR 358 Modifieds.
