News from the 'Super Summer Series'

Interest High For 'Super Summer Series' 2010; Driver Could Leave Penn Can Speedway With $12,000 For Just Two Events

SUSQUEHANNA, PA - Plenty of cash awaits competitors in the two-race 'Super Summer Series' at Penn Can Speedway this summer.

And drivers are taking notice.

Co-promoted by Brett Deyo and Penn Can Speedway's management team of Reed Miller and Al Wilcox, the two-race 'Super Summer Series' is comprised of the June 8 'Clash at the Can' and Aug. 10 'Hot Summer Night' races at the Susquehanna, Pa., oval - a mini-series within the nine-event Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour.

The two races will feature similar formats for the RoC-sanctioned big-block/small-block Modifieds: 60 laps paying $4,000 to the winner, plus a $1,000 "gambler's fee" bonus for drivers rolling the dice and paying an extra $20 at sign-in.

A $5,000 payday for a 60-lap race has turned heads across the region.

Additionally, a $500 bonus goes to the top-finishing 358-Modified at each event - meaning each race winner could walk away with $5,500.

Points will be distributed at each event with the overall, two-race 'Super Summer Series' champion earning a $1,000 cash bonus. The point system has been posted on the BD Motorsports Media Web site: http://www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com/.

Should a driver win both races with a small-block Modified, their take-home pay could top $12,000 for the two-race series!

"Interest is high for the 'Super Summer Series' races," said Deyo, who also promotes the Short Track SuperNationals at Five Mile Point (N.Y.) Speedway in the fall.

"I've been fielding plenty of questions about both events and we can expect a wide cross-section of racers from across the Northeast."

Penn Can's three-eighths-mile layout means money, fresh rubber and horsepower don't guarantee success, making the 'Super Summer Series' events favorable to low-dollar, weekly teams.

No conflicts on the dirt Modified calendar will allow the touring series stars and Pennsylvania/New Jersey teams to invade the facility. The makings of an all-star field are in place.

Dirt Modified superstar Brett Hearn of Sussex, N.J., a winner of over 770 races in his 36-year career, has taken notice of Penn Can's 'Super Summer Series' events. Hearn has posted early plans to attend both the 'Clash at the Can' and 'Hot Summer Night' races on his Web site.

"We're expecting a diverse field for both events," Deyo said.

Running under the RoC banner brings along the touring group's followers, as well. A field of 56 358-Modifieds and 64 big-block Mods took part in the recent RoC opening weekend at Selinsgrove (Pa.) Speedway.

With a posted $28,000 point fund for the '10 RoC series and Lias Tire of Indiana, Pa., offering incentives for drivers running American Racer facilities via its American Racer Cup, strong support is expected for the entire RoC circuit this summer.

"If ever there was a year to be part of the RoC schedule, this is it," Deyo said. "A number of teams have committed to running the entire tour or most of the races, which stands to benefit fans attending our 'Super Summer Series' events."

Rain dates have been put into place for both events. Should the June 8 'Clash at the Can' fall to rain, it will be run on June 9. The Aug. 10 'Hot Summer Night' moves to Aug. 11 in the event of wet weather.

The '10 'Super Summer Series' is presented by Don's Automotive Mall, Gary's U-Pull-It, Reading Plastic Fabricators, G&G Used Auto Parts, Puzo's Collision and Trackside Products.

Sponsorship opportunities, including product and contingency awards, remain available for the 'Super Summer Series' at Penn Can.

About the 'Super Summer Series'

Special events promoter Brett Deyo has partnered with Penn Can Speedway co-promoters Reed Miller and Al Wilcox for a pair of 'Super Summer Series' midweek races at the Susquehanna, Pa., clay oval.

The first event, dubbed the 'Clash at the Can' is set for Tuesday night, June 8. The 60-lap big-block/small-block Modified race will offer a $4,000 top prize plus a $1,000 bonus should the winning driver take the $20 "Gambler's Fee" option. Doug Borger's XCel 600 Modifieds and the RoC Street Stocks will serve as the support division.

The second race, assuming the 'Hot Summer Night' moniker, is scheduled for Tuesday night, Aug. 10 with a similar format: 60 laps, $4,000 to the winner plus an additional $1,000 should the winner post the "Gambler's Fee." The 'Late Model Challenge' will fill out the program.

Point standings will be tabulated for the 'Super Summer Series' races. The champion of the series will earn $1,000 with contingency awards presented to others. Drivers must attempt to qualify for both events to be eligible for awards.

Both Modified events will be points-paying races on the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour, running under RoC rules. The events will include fuel stops (if necessary) for cars running methanol. Sail panels will be permitted for 'Super Summer Series' RoC events.

Rain dates have been put into place for both events. Should the June 8 'Clash at the Can' fall to rain, it will be run on June 9. The Aug. 10 'Hot Summer Night' moves to Aug. 11 in the event of wet weather.
