History Of Auto Racing Honored During March 7-13 IRCO Dirt Track Heroes Show
PHILLIPSBURG, NJ - History will take center stage during the upcoming IRCO Community Federal Credit Union Dirt Track Heroes Show.
Local auto racing - past and present - will be the focus of attention March 7-13 at the Phillipsburg Mall, located on Route 22 East in Phillipsburg, N.J. The '10 edition will be the third in the history of the IRCO Dirt Track Heroes event.
The recently-formed Flemington (N.J.) Speedway Historical Society will have a large presence at the show with Vintage Cars and a salute to the Late Model division at the famed Garden State facility. A Flemington Late Model Reunion is scheduled for Sat., March 13 at noon.
A former Flemington pace truck will be part of the display, along with plenty of memorabilia from "The Square."
The Flemington Speedway Historical Society will be recruiting new members during the show. For further information, contact Bill Hanna via e-mail at flemspdyrhs@verizon.net
Honoring the 40th anniversary of the speedway's 1970 Season Opener, the Harmony (N.J.) Speedway Historical Society will be on hand at the IRCO Dirt Track Heroes Show. Photos, race results and articles from the 1970 lid-lifter - won by Ray Neary - will be displayed, along with a number of restored cars.
Through the efforts of noted racing photographer Henry Wilt, Dorney Park (Pa.) Speedway will be saluted at the show. Anchoring the Dorney Park display will be pictures, vintage sheet metal, collectibles, T-shirts, trophies, driver's suits and more.
On Sat., March 13, former Dorney Park drivers Dave Cicon, George Wambold, Mike Garris and Russ Frantz will be available for autographs at 2 p.m. Other drivers could be added to the autograph session.
For further information on the Dorney Park tribute, contact Henry Wilt by e-mail at cameradude@entermail.net
The Reading (Pa.) Fairgrounds Racing Historical Society is expected to have a presence at the show to honor the history of the famed Berks County track.
The Pados brothers of the CARQUEST Gasoline Alley Show return to host the nightly events and interviews. Several guest announcers will be on hand during the weeklong event, adding to the festivities.
The CARQUEST Gasoline Alley Show will open the show with a three-hour taping on Sun., March 7. The show will air on March 8.
The "new" J&L Speed Supplies, located in Hellertown, Pa., will be on hand at the IRCO Dirt Track Heroes Show. J&L operator Harry Landis has plans for a booth. He will also display his No. 31 Sportsman car, which will see action at Big Diamond (Pa.) Raceway in 2010.
New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway general manager Danny Serrano has indicated the popular Garden State facility would be well represented at the Dirt Track Heroes event.
Additionally, there will be collectibles, novelties and current-day/vintage race films on sale during the event. The IRCO Dirt Track Heroes Car Show will again produce its own souvenir T-shirt and program book.
Race teams looking to register for the event should log on to the show Web site at www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com. The show flyer and entry form is located on the main page. Teams and their sponsors will receive mainstream exposure from the thousands visiting the mall each day. A nominal entry fee of $25 covers insurance for the week.
The third edition of the IRCO Community Federal Credit Union Dirt Track Heroes Car Show is a joint effort between event originator Bob Miller and Brett Deyo.
