Local Tracks To Be Well Represented At Upcoming 25th Racing Legends Reunion & Car Show presented by Reading Eagle and WEEU 830 AM

READING, PA - The upcoming 25th annual Racing Legends Reunion & Car Show presented by Reading Eagle and WEEU 830 AM will be the source for information on local auto racing.

The major oval tracks in the region have signed on to participate in the event, set for Feb. 21-27 at the Fairgrounds Square Mall on 5th Street Highway in Reading, the former site of the famed Reading Fairgrounds Speedway.

Over 100 race cars, present-day and restored, are expected to jam the mall to capacity, while a full schedule of activities awaits attendees throughout the weeklong event.

Grandview Speedway, the one-third-mile oval in Bechtelsville, Pa., has set plans to attend the show to promote the upcoming season of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series 358-Modified and Late Model competition and the special-event Thunder on the Hill Racing Series.

For Grandview racers, the speedway will have representatives signing up NASCAR members on Wed., Feb. 24 (6-9 p.m.), Thurs., Feb. 25 (6-9 p.m.), Fri., Feb. 26 (5-9 p.m.) and Sat., Feb. 27 (5-9 p.m.) at the Grandview display.

After an absence of two years, Big Diamond Raceway returns to the Racing Legends Reunion & Car Show to distribute schedules, rules and information in advance of a busy 2010 campaign at the Forestville, Pa., track.

LANCO's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway in Brickerville, Pa., will be in attendance. Clyde Martin hosts five divisions of weekly Micro-Sprint racing on Saturday nights.

The Fairgrounds at Kutztown (Pa.) Speedway, known for its midweek brand of summer Micro-Sprint and Slingshot racing, will distribute schedules and divulge plans for the upcoming 2010 season at the one-fifth-mile clay oval in the shadows of Kutztown University.

Shellhammer's Speedway, a Saturday-night venue featuring go-kart and Slingshot racing in Shoemakersville, Pa., looks ahead to 2010 with a booth at the show.

For the first time ever, Joe and Erin Cutri's North East Enduro Tour Series (NEETS) will attend the Racing Legends Reunion & Car Show. The NEETS Enduro group has a schedule of eight events planned for '10 at Grandview.

NEETS owner Joe Cutri will offer an 'Introduction to Enduro Racing' presentation on the show's opening day, Sun., Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. to discuss the brand of racing and answer questions on getting involved in the sport.

Rich "Toby" Tobias Jr. of Speedway Entertainment is another newcomer to the Racing Legends Reunion & Car Show. Speedway Entertainment will display its popular Slingshot cars and the growing SpeedSTR Midget division will be featured.

Tobias plans to take the stage on Mon., Feb. 22 during Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc. 'Open Wheel Night' to discuss affordable racing technology.

Information will be available at the show from URC, ARDC and the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour.

The Short Track SuperNationals presented by Dart Machinery at Five Mile Point (N.Y.) Speedway Oct. 8-9 and 'Super Summer Series' at Penn Can (Pa.) Speedway June 8 and Aug. 10 will have promotional materials available, as well.

A full week of events are planned for the show's 25th anniversary.

On Friday night, Feb. 26 the annual BASH Racing Party takes place at the Temple (Pa.) Fire Company just minutes from the mall on Kutztown Road. The BASH begins at 9 p.m.

The annual BASH includes the presentation of show awards, including Best of Show, Best Modified, Best Open Cockpit, Best Late Model, Best Micro-Sprint, Best Restored Race Car and Best Quarter Midget as decided by a voting panel of press members.

A highlight of the BASH Racing Party will be the presentation of the first-ever Don Marks Memorial Contribution to Motorsports Award.

Nominees representing numerous facets of the sport have been received via e-mail through the show Web site (www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com) for several months. The votes have been tallied and the winner will be revealed at the BASH.

Marks was the longtime track photographer at Grandview Speedway, submitting photos to a number of publications. His work was seen in the pages of Area Auto Racing News weekly from Grandview and many other tracks up and down the East Coast. He was also an active member of the Eastern Motorsport Press Association (EMPA). Marks passed away suddenly in 2008.

Sponsorship support for the 2010 BASH comes via Beer City of Quakertown, Pa., owner Bert Jones and Lee Myles Transmissions Pennsylvania locations in Reading, Birdsboro, Allentown, Easton, Mt. Pocono & York.

Tickets for the BASH Party are $10 and will be available during the show.

The BASH Party will feature music for dancing, a cash bar, racing movies (including 2009 footage from the Pennsylvania Dual-Track circuit) and plenty of bench racing.

Other show highlights include the 600Scene.com 'Small Car Roundtable' on Tuesday night, Feb. 23, the annual Reading Fairgrounds Speedway Reunion on Friday night, Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m. and the first ever Penn National Speedway Reunion set for Saturday evening, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m.

Author Gary Ludwig will appear nightly beginning at 4 p.m. and during mall hours on Feb. 21 and 27 to autograph copies of his best-selling book Tommy Hinnershitz, the Life and Times of an Auto Racing Legend, which will be on sale at the show.

Randy's Raceway of Kutztown, Pa., will be set up with his portable HO slot car track all week during the show. A celebrity race featuring Modified racers is planned for Wednesday's Reading Plastic Fabricators 'Modified Madness' program.

Driver bartending at the Applebee's on 5th Street Highway, adjacent to the small, is planned for Monday, Feb. 22, Wed., Feb. 24 and Thurs., Feb. 25 beginning at 9 p.m. each night.

Limited space for vendors and race teams is still available. For general information, contact Brett Deyo at 845.728.2781, via e-mail at Deyo99H@aol.com  or on the web: http://www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com/.
