Beer City of Quakertown BASH Racing Party Cures Winter Blues Fri., Feb. 26; Don Marks Memorial Award Winner To Be Announced
READING, PA - Need a cure for the winter blues? Want a night out of the house to socialize with friends from the racing community?
Mark your calendar for Friday night, Feb. 26 when the annual BASH Racing Party takes place at the Temple (Pa.) Fire Company as part of the 25th annual Racing Legends Reunion & Car Show presented by Reading Eagle and WEEU 830 AM. The BASH begins at 9 p.m.
The annual BASH includes the presentation of show awards, including Best of Show, Best Modified, Best Open Cockpit, Best Late Model, Best Micro-Sprint, Best Restored Race Car and Best Quarter Midget as decided by a voting panel of press members.
A highlight of the BASH Racing Party will be the presentation of the first-ever Don Marks Memorial Contribution to Motorsports Award.
Nominees representing numerous facets of the sport have been received via e-mail through the show Web site (www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com) for several months. The votes have been tallied and the winner will be revealed at the BASH.
"Don Marks was a friend to everyone in the sport," event organizer Brett Deyo said. "This award will go to someone that has given their all to the support of local auto racing, just like Don did for so many years."
Marks was the longtime track photographer at Grandview (Pa.) Speedway, submitting photos to a number of publications. His work was seen in the pages of Area Auto Racing News weekly from Grandview and many other tracks up and down the East Coast. He was also an active member of the Eastern Motorsport Press Association (EMPA). Marks passed away suddenly in 2008.
Sponsorship support for the 2010 BASH comes via Beer City of Quakertown, Pa., owner Bert Jones and Lee Myles Transmissions Pennsylvania locations in Reading, Birdsboro, Allentown, Easton, Mt. Pocono & York.
Tickets for the BASH Party are $10 and will be available during the show at the Fairgrounds Square Mall (5th Street Highway - Reading, Pa.) or at the door. The Temple Fire Company is located on Kutztown Road, just minutes from the mall.
The BASH Party will feature music for dancing, a cash bar, racing movies (including 2009 footage from the Pennsylvania Dual-Track circuit) and plenty of bench racing.
The BASH is open to drivers, team owners, officials, crew members, sponsors, media members, track owners and fans.
"It should be a fun night out before for everyone before the season gets going," Deyo said.
Over 100 race cars (present-day and restored), speedway exhibits, vendors, sanctioning bodies and more will fill the Fairgrounds Square Mall Feb. 21-27 for the 25th anniversary of the Racing Legends Reunion & Car Show presented by Reading Eagle and WEEU 830 AM.
