Guns Are Loaded: Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Travelers Square Off Against Bridgeport Speedway Regulars At Sunday’s (April 17) ‘South Jersey Shootout’ Special; More Than $25,000 On The Line In 40-Lap Main Event
BRIDGEPORT, NJ – Their guns are loaded and the stars of the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP are set for a “shootout” this Sunday (April 17) at Bridgeport Speedway.
The second annual ‘South Jersey Shootout’ at the five-eighths-mile clay oval – with more than $25,000 cash on the line – features a 40-lap big-block/small-block Modified main event, Round No. 2 of the STSS Velocita South Region. Drivers from across the Northeast will vie for a $5,000 winner’s share plus lap money, bonuses and more. Tenth-place offers $1,000, with $400 to take the green flag.
Also on the agenda: XCel 600 Modifieds battling for $1,000 to win on the inner quarter-mile Spirit Auto Center Speedway plus Sportsman and Outlaw Stocks joining the STSS Modifieds on the big track.
On Sunday, pit gates open at noon. Hot laps get underway at 3 p.m. and the first green flag flies at 4 p.m.
Admission for the grandstands is $25 for Adults (ages 16 and up), $10 (Students 10-15) and Kids 9 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $35, with no license required.
Complete event information has been posted at the following link: http://bdmotorsportsmedia.com/south-jersey-shootout-rules-prices-general-information/
From the north, New York State will be represented by March 12 Georgetown (Del.) winner Anthony Perrego, 2015 STSS North Region title winner Stewart Friesen, short-track standout Danny Creeden, a past STSS winner, and Tyler Dippel, who will race on the high banks of Bristol, Tenn., Saturday in NASCAR K&N competition before flying in to do battle Sunday at Bridgeport.
The Sheffield, Mass., traveler – Andy Bachetti – plans to make the long tow south to Bridgeport. Bachetti has fired out of the box in 2016 with top-five finishes at Georgetown and N.Y.’s Orange County Fair Speedway.
Bridgeport’s weekly contingent will be led by reigning speedway champion Jamie Mills of Milford, Del., coming off a second-place finish in a “pre-season” event last Sunday. Among the other Bridgeport stars are defending STSS South Region title winner Ryan Watt, 2015 ‘Shootout’ winner Rick Laubach, Jordan Watson, Richie Pratt Jr., Wade Hendrickson, Dave Hunt, Sammy Martz, Mike Franz, Mike Barone and many more.
Both Bridgeport 2016 feature winners – Dominick Buffalino (March 26) and big-block rookie Brett Kressley (April 10) – are setting their sights on a $5,000 payday Sunday.
The Pennsylvania small-block Modified stars will be out in full force: Jeff Strunk in the Glenn Hyneman No. 126, Doug Manmiller at the wheel of the Jason Miller No. 44, Duane Howard piloting the Mike Petruska No. 66 and Craig Von Dohren driving for Dick Biever.
New Jersey drivers “invading” Bridgeport include the father-and-son tandem of Billy Pauch Sr. and Jr., the elder in Kevin Bifulco’s No. 1 and the younger driving for John Pakenham, Ryan Godown at the wheel of the Bill Hewlett No. 901, David Van Horn Jr. at the controls of the family No. 71 after a strong second at Georgetown in March, the sensational Jimmy Horton, youthful talent Ryan Krachun and more.
The First State invaders will be led to Bridgeport by defending Delaware International Speedway champion H.J. Bunting III, Brad Trice, Shawn Ward, Michael White and others, towing north for the Sunday Bridgeport special.
Last April, in the inaugural ‘South Jersey Shootout’ it was Hellertown, Pa., driver Rick Laubach guiding the No. 7 big-block to victory over David Van Horn Jr., Craig Von Dohren, a rim-riding Ryan Watt and Jack Swain.
Bridgeport serves as the second of seven races on the STSS Velocita South Region schedule with $8,500 reserved for the regional champion from a massive $25,000-plus point fund.
Located in South Jersey, just minutes from Pennsylvania and Delaware at I-295 Exit 14, Bridgeport Speedway is a spacious five-eighths-mile clay oval with a quarter-mile embedded in the center.
