Benyou Takes Late Model Checkers on Saturday Night at SSP

Newberrytown, PA (August 8, 2015) – New Cumberland’s Cameron Benyou won his second BRC Late Model feature of the season at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday Night. Jason Townsend of Hanover claimed his first feature win of the season in the 20-lap Street Stoc k feature race. York Spring’s Jaremi Hanson won his second consecutive 20-lap IMCA PA Sprint Series feature event. Earlier in the night, Alex Updergraff from Etters won the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event postponed from Saturday, August 8. Later in the night, York Haven’s Rich Lomman won the regularly scheduled 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature. The 15-lap Road Warrior feature was won by Dover’s Tim Osheehan for his fifth of the season. Thomas Thompson of Red Lion won his first 12-lap Mini Van feature of the season.
J.R. Rodriguez started the 25-lap BRC Late Model feature outside the front row and grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag. Cameron Benyou settled into second place as Chase Billet fell in behind him. The trio of drivers pulled away from the rest of the pack. On lap 18, Rodriguez bobbled coming off turn two, giving Benyou the opening to get by the leader. Benyou led the rest of the race to take his second win of the season. Rodriguez settled for second with Billet in third. Jake Moser and Grant Adams finished fourth and fifth respectively. Rodriguez and Admas were the heat race winners.
Mark Hutchison grabbed the early lead of the 25-lap Street Stock feature and received immediate pressure from Jason Townsend. On the next lap Townsend took over the top spot and never looked back. Eddie Richards and Josh Bloom stayed within striking distance, but Townsend was the first to the checkers followed by Richards and Bloom at the end. Scott Thunberg finished fourth as Jim Palm Jr. rounded out the top five. Richards and Palm Jr. were the heat race winners.
In the 20-lap IMCA PA Sprint Series feature event, Stephanie Stevens and Jaremi Hanson brought the field to the green with Hanson taking the top spot and setting the pace. Stevens stayed within striking distance but could not make the pass to take the lead. A red flag was brought out on lap 7 for a flipping Billy Ney. On the restart, Hanson continued to lead to the finish to take the victory over Stevens. Donnie Hendershot finished third with Tyler Reeser coming across the line in fourth. Ken Duke finished in fifth. Hendershot and Duke were the heat race winners.
The 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature began with Dan Snyder leading the first nine laps until Alex Updegraff took the lead. Updegraff was involved in an accident on the restart on lap 18 and retired from the race giving the lead to Rich Lomman. Lomman went on to win the race over Mallory Duvall. Snyder finished third with the Madison House Hard Charger of the race, Joe Hower who started in 14th and finished fourth. John Frye rounded out the top five. Justin Palm and Patrick McClane won the heat races.
Dennis Dorosz led the first three laps of the Road Warrior 15 lapper until Tim Osheehan passed by on lap four. Osheehan set the pace, but Daryl Sipe tracked him down in the waning stages of the race. Sipe was unable to make the pass as Osheehen took the checkers over Sipe. Travis Brown stayed consistent and finished third. Dorosz settled for fourth at the end followed by Brandon Hedstrom in fifth. Dorosz and Osheehan were heat race winners.
Thomas Thompson took the early lead from the front row at the start of the 12-lap Mini Van race and led every lap in the non-stop race to take his first victory of the season. Dennis Dorosz chased Thompson but had to settle for second at the finish. Zakari Kitner finished in third place, followed by Richard Wolfe in fourth. John Kitner rounded out the top five.
At the beginning of the nigh, the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event postponed from last Saturday night began with Kyle Emig as the early leader with Patrick McClane challenging for the top spot.. Meanwhile, Alex Updegraff started 7th and made his way into the runnerup spot on lap 8 and took the lead from Emig on lap 11. Once in front, Updegraff never looked back and went on to take the victory over McClane. The Madison House Hard Charger Award went to third place finisher John Frye, who started 11th at the beginning of the race. Travis Horan came across the line in fourth, followed by Emig in fifth.
Friday Night, August 14, the seventh round of the Summer Shoot-Out Series will take place at the Outback Track featuring Quarter Midgets, Karts and Adult Speedcars. The pit gates will open 5:45 p.m. with a driver’s meeting at 7:20 p.m. Open practice begins at 7:00 p.m. and racing action begins at 7:30 p.m. The entry fees for each class will be $20.00 per entry for drivers with the seasonal (Spring/Summer) license. Pit pass fees for the driver are included in the entry fee. Non-license driver’s entry fees will be $25.00. Participants may enter more than one class on a raceday ($12.00 for each additional class). Trophies will be awarded to the top three in each class regardless of class entry count. No participants will be denied racing as SSP will make every effort to define a class for all drivers who wish to compete.
Pit pass prices for non-drivers at the Outback Track will be $8.00 for everyone ages 18 & older; Teens & Children ages 11 – 17 are $5.00; Children 10 years of age and under are $3.00. Ages 2 & under are admitted free.
Up next at the SSP Big Track will be the popular Camera & Autograph Night on Saturday Night, August 15. Also racing will be the BRC Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks; Road Warriors, Mini Vans and the IMCA PA Sprint Series. The popular annual Camera & Autograph Night is an event in which all fans will have the opportunity to meet their favorite drivers with their cars on the frontstretch before the feature events begins. In the past, teams have distributed photo cards, candy, sponsor samples and more in the driver “Meet & Greet.”
The Central PA Bloodmobile will also be on hand from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. accepting blood donations. Everyo ne who attempts to donate will receive 2 complimentary general admission tickets to SSP and a t-shirt. All donors must have eaten within four hours prior to donating blood. The pit gates will open at 4:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Warm-ups begin at 6:30 p.m. with qualifying following. Racing action begins at 7:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for Sunday night are Adults (ages 18-59) $14.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $12.00; Children (10 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $25.00 with a reduced price of $22.00 for all SSP license holders.
The next Wednesday night Test & Tune will be on Wednesday, August 19. The gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with practice sessions rotating for each class from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost is $14.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($34.00 per car & driver combination). Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class. Each session will be 6 – 8 laps per session. The grandstands are open and free to the public. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 6/8 laps each or more if time permits. The main concession stand will also be open throughout the night.
Also on Wednesday night, August 19, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets, karts and Adult Speedcars at the Outback Track from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. under the lights. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost will be $20.00 per driver with no charge for anyone else entering the grandstand and “cold pit” areas. All Outback Track participants should enter the pits from the Kise Mill Road entrance behind turn 2 of the “Big Track.”

- Madison House XSC Hard Charger Award – For every regular season Xtreme Stock Car feature event, Madison House will present a Hard Charger Award to the driver that improves the most positions from their starting spot in the feature event. The winner will receive $25.00 compliments of Madison House (York) and be eligible for post-season awards for accumulating the most Hard Charger Awards during the season. To be eligible, the driver must be on the lead lap and finish the race. If two drivers improve the same amount of positions, the tiebreaker will be the driver starting closer to the pole position being awarded the Hard Charger of the race.
