ESS 360 SPRINT CARS MAKE HISTORIC FIRST VISIT TO THUNDER MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY SATURDAY, AUG. 30; TRACK WILL BE SILENT AUG. 23 (8-9-16)‏

Historic First Visit By Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) 360 Sprint Cars Set For Saturday, August 30 At Thunder Mountain Speedway; ‘Sprint Car Saturday’ To Include ESS, CRSA 305 Sprint Cars, Empire Lightning Sprints, SRP Sprints & HUGE Fireworks Display; August 23 Will Be Silent For Fencing Work
CENTER LISLE, NY – For the first time in the history of Thunder Mountain Speedway, the lightning-fast 360 Sprint Cars of the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) will hit banked three-eighths-mile oval on Saturday, Aug. 30.
The ESS squad of touring racers, celebrating their 31st anniversary season, will headline a unique ‘Sprint Car Saturday’ program co-promoted by BD Motorsports Media LLC. The event also includes the CRSA 305 Sprint Cars, Empire Lightning Sprints, SRP Sprints and a huge fireworks display. The fireworks show will be larger than the track’s Independence Day display on July 5.
For the special “wing night” there will be hot wing specials in the concession stands and other surprises for fans.
Located approximately 25 miles north of Binghamton off I-81 exit 8 (Whitney Point/Lisle), Thunder Mountain’s location is ideal to draw many of the Central New York-based 360 Sprint Car teams, their fans and families. ESS heads to Utica-Rome (N.Y.) Speedway on Aug. 31, after competing at Thunder Mountain, meaning the tow will be worthwhile for Quebec-based competitors.
Gates, for both the pit and grandstand areas, will open at 4 p.m. for the inaugural event, with hot laps unde rway at 6:15 p.m. and racing promptly at 7 p.m.
To prepare for the big event, Thunder Mountain Speedway owner and promoter Karl Spoonhower has announced the speedway will now be silent on Saturday, Aug. 23 for fencing/retaining wall work. A new fence will be installed on the backstretch. There will also be work completed on the frontstretch catch fencing.
“We are all looking forward to the Sprint Car race,” noted Spoonhower, back at the helm of the track he constructed in the early 1990s this season. “But we know the fencing and retaining walls need some work to ensure the safety of everybody attending, so we decided to take the 23rd off and get the place right for them.”
Admission pricing for the Aug. 30 ‘Sprint Car Saturday’ is as follows: $18 for Adults, $16 for Seniors (ages 65 and over) and $12 for Students (ages 10-17). Kids 9 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $30.
The ‘Sprint Car Saturday’ program is the first of consecutive days of racing at Thunder Mountain during Labor Day weekend. On Sunday (Aug. 31), MjH Oilfield presents the Wade Decker Memorial event to include Modifieds (50 laps, $5,000 to win), Sportsman (40 laps, $1,250 to win) and Street Stocks (30 laps, $1,000 to win). Fans returning to Thunder Mountain on Sunday with a Saturday ticket stub will receive $2 off.
