LOU CICCONI WINS MODIFIED MAYHEM

LOCUSON, FRYE AND DUNN NAP CHECKERED

 

     The Mighty Modifieds returned to the quarter mile at Bridgeport Speedway on Friday night for the first time since 2011 and there was plenty of action for the fans on hand.  Lou Cicconi made a last lap pass of Mike Iles to capture the win in the 25-lap Modified Mayhem feature event.  Chris Locuson scored his first win in the 600cc Micro Sprint division while Glen Frye, Jr. recorded his second win in the 270cc Micro Sprint main event.  Scott Dunn recorded his sixth win of the season in the Four Cylinder Enduro feature.

     Corey Andersen and Laura Emmons made up the front row at the start for the Modified Mayhem with Andersen jumping out to the early lead.  Ron Roberts made an attempt to take the lead but wound up in the inside wall in turn 2 to bring out the first caution.  As the green flag waved Andersen maintained the lead but was now closely followed by Mike Iles and Cicconi.  Cicconi grabbed the lead going three wide with Andersen and Iles. 

     A restart on lap 10 saw Cicconi choosing the outside of the front row.  Cicconi was knocked out of shape and fell to fourth by the time lap 11 was completed.  Iles was now on point with Steve Davis second.  Iles assumed command on the restart.  Iles held the lead until the final lap when he and Cicconi approached laps traffic.  Iles went high and Cicconi went low.  Cicconi crossed the line first with Iles following for second.  Davis was third followed by Don Cogdill, III.  Roberts recovered from the early race incident to finish fifth.

     Chris Locuson finally scored his first 600cc Micro Sprint win at Bridgeport Speedway this season.  Locuson jumped out to the lead at the green flag over polesitter, Bill Thomas and led every lap of the 20-lap feature to record the win.  Previous week’s winner, Steven Bracall finished second followed by Andrew Locuson, Sam Locuson and Bill Thomas.

      Glen Frye, Jr. had trouble in warm-ups and mechanical woes continued in the heat race but a 12-invert put him on the pole to start the feature.  Frye made repairs after the heat race and led every lap of the 20-lap feature to capture his second 270cc Micro Sprint win of the season in the non-stop event.  Billy Gray finished second followed by Steve Coslop in third, Tyler Reinhardt and Jonathan John completed the top five.

     The battle of the Dunn’s continues in the Four Cylinder Enduro division as Scott Dunn won the 20-lap feature event for the sixth time this season over newcomer, Joe King, Jr., his son, Justin Dunn, Cheri LaClaire and Robbie Dunn.
