SSP Going From Dirt Track to Asphalt Track in Near Future
Fishers’ Finished With Weather Related Issues
Newberrytown, PA (April 1, 2014) – The Susquehanna Speedway Park will be changed from a successful dirt track to a one-of-a-kind asphalt track on the local Central PA racing scene. Local native and SSP owner Todd Fisher has an extensive background in asphalt racing while working for the Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina (1993-2000) and the Hardeeville Motor Speedway in South Carolina (2000-2002) before purchasing SSP at the end of the 2003 racing season.
Ground will be broken immediately as J.R. Rodriguez from JR’s Paving whose home base is directly across from the speedway. Rodriguez, an expert in asphalt and driveway sealing for any project will take on his biggest task yet with the covering of the clay with asphalt. Tim Hahn of Madison House East will provide workers to assist Rodriguez in this huge job that has time implications.
“This will be a great addition to our business,” commented Jake Jones of Miller’s Racing Products in Mechanicsburg. “We will expand our business to all new levels and immediately look into expanding our current retail shop to cover the impending demands for the pats needed to convert the dirt cars to asphalt.
The Garage owned by Mike Keller in Stevens, Pennsylvania will also assist the customers on the “other side of the river.” His extensive background in drag racing will also help racers make the conversion much quicker.
To assist with the transition, Hoosier Racing Tires has developed a special dirt/asphalt combination tire for the racers to adapt to the hard surface much quicker. All interested parties should contact Bob Wirts of Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic for the technical details. Insinger Performance and Sunoco Racing Fuels, the official Fuel Supplier of SSP, has also developed a special blend of fuel for SSP to allow for maximum horsepower without giving up any torque.
Coca Cola, the official beverage supplier, is also very excited about the news. The will have a spe cial formula of Coke Syrup that will be applied to the upper groove of the track every week to provide at least two lanes of side-by-side racing every time the cars hit the track. They are in the process of developing a permanent solution that will not need to be applied every race, but once every five years.
The properties around the speedway will be on the market quickly as the great influx of racing fans will flock to the area. Any interested parties should contact Rhonda Fisher from Coldwell Banker in York to get the best deal on real estate in the area. Rhonda can find the best mobile homes in the area at the Conewago Valley Mobile Home Park located just down the road from the track.
For those purchasing vacant lots in the area, Donnie Broderick of Superior Homes in Lancaster can assist with new modular homes of great quality and price. For those that want to renovate their already built homes, Tony Sipling from AS2 Home Improvements will do a masterful job with any project small or large. Lee Manuel of Pest-Rite, a locally owned Pest and Termite Control Expert from Manchester, will be able to help home buyers rid their purchases of pesky inhabitants.
If you find that you do not have enough storage in your new purchase, a great solution is an Amish Built shed, garage or barn from Fisher Structures in Lewisberry. They have the best prices in the Central PA area for quality outbuildings.
To deal with the huge influx of asphalt starved short track fans in Central PA, Carl Hughes will offer additional parking at the SSP neighbor, the Newberrytown Peddlers Market. The market is open on Saturday and Sunday before the races begi n for those early-arriving fans.
J&K Salvage of York will be giving the best prices for those drivers that want to scrap their dirt racecars. If persons cannot get their cars to the salvage yard, Mike Walls of Mike’s Towing will be more than helpful to assist anyone in need. For those special, hard-to-find parts from factory-manufactured asphalt cars, Eichelbergers U-Pull-It in Spring Grove has more than 1000vehicles on property. With a few simple tools and a little elbow grease a person can save as much as 80% over new auto parts prices at Eichelbergers U-Pull-It. If a person still can’t find that part, they can check online at www.rockauto.com.
Great used cars that may be converted to asphalt racers can be found at Credit Connection Auto Sales with three locations in Harrisburg, Carlisle and York. They also specialize in imports, trucks, SUVs and vans as well.
The only downside to the announcement is that Dain Hursh, owner of the newly renovated Dover Car Wash on Main Street, is still hoping to keep the business open from racecars from surrounding dirt tracks. The Dover Car Wash is one of the very few area car washes that encourage dirt racers to bring their vehicles there to be cleaned after a hard night of racing. Fans are also encouraged to bring in their vehicles as well for a quick wash after watching a night of exciting dirt racing.

Wednesday Test & Tune on April 2; Season Opener This Saturday
The next Test & Tune will be on Wednesday, April 2. The gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with practice sessions rotating for each class from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination). Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class. Each session will be 6 – 8 laps per session. The grandstands are open and free to the public. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 6/8 laps each or more if time permits. The fuel pumps from Miller’s Racing Parts will be open along with their parts trailer. The main concession stand will also be open throughout the night.
The first Test & Tune for the “Outback Track” will be Friday Night, April 11.
During the season, SSP will also host Wednesday Night Test & Tune Sessions on April 9; April 23; May 7; May 21; June 4; June 11; June 25; July 23; August 6; August 13; September 3; September 17; October 1; October 15 and October 22. All Wednesday night practices will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
New this season will be the Jr. Road Warrior class for all drivers ages 14 to 18 years of ages as of age. This class will compete along with the Mini Vans in a feature only event. This will allow younger drivers to develop their talents without competing against veterans in the division.
Entering the 11th year of ownership under Todd and Rhonda Fisher, the 2014 season opener at the Susquehanna Speedway Park will be on Saturday, April 5, with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Legends Cars and the first of two appearances by the Super Sportsman. All point championships for each class starts on April 6. At the end of the season, SSP will crown fourteen-(14) track champions in their respective classes (Late Models; Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Road Warriors, Mini Vans, Figure 8 Racing, PENNMAR Vintage Cars, Classic Cars, PA Sprint Series, Legends Cars, Sidewinder Sprints, ARDC Midgets, Super 410 Sprint Cars and 358 Sprint Cars). Track championships are based on classes with a minimum of three races per season.
The SSP track championship point season schedule features 19 point races for the Late Models and 18 point races for the Street Stocks as well as 16 point races for the Xtreme Stock Car s not including their respective season ending special events. The popular entry level Road Warrior and Mini Van divisions will compete 1 5 and 14 each respectively. The PA Sprint Series will compete at the York County oval 11 times.
Open-wheel cars will make many appearances at York County’s stock car oval in Newberrytown. The Super 410 Sprint Cars and 358 Sprint Cars are double billed for three separate visits on Sunday, April 13 for the 5th annual Sprint Car Spring Classic; Sunday, June 15 for the 7th annual Sprint Car Summer Classic (Father’s Day) Saturday, November 15 for the popular 5th annual Final Showdown paying a SSP record-breaking $10,060 to the 410 Sprint Car winner bringing a close to SSP’s 60th year in existence The 410 Sprints will also join the SSP Late Models for one race on Sunday, May 4 and the ARDC wingless Midgets will join the 410 Sprint Cars on Sunday, September 21 for the Inaugural Sprint Car Fall Classic.
Two special events for the 600cc Micro Sprints include events on Thursday, July 3 for the Eichelberger’s U-Pull-It Super Show IX and the Candy Bowl X presented by J&K Salvage on Saturday, October 25.
The final leg of the USAC Eastern Storm championship featuring the National USAC Non-Wing Sprint Cars will be on Sunday, June 8.
At the season opener on Saturday, April 5, the pit gates will open at 3:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Warm-ups begin at 5:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 6:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events. General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for the Season Opener special event on Saturday night are Adults (ages 18-59) $15.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $13.00; Children (10 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $25.00 with a reduced price of $22.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 12 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 12 to 14.

- Special Pricing for 2014 Regular Season Pit Pass Cards – In order to help weekly supporters, SSP has announced that season pit pass cards for all automobile race events at the “Big Track” from April 5 through September 13 (22 events) are on sale for just $350.00 (a retail value of $575.00). The pass is not valid for events at the “Outback Track” or for the Test & Tune Sessions held throughout the season. Does not include the USAC racing event on Sunday, June 8, 2014.
- 2014 Full Season Grandstand Passes - Are available for only $225.00 (adults ages 18-59); $200.00 (young adults ages 11-17 & seniors 60 and older) for all events (29 event nights) at the “Big Track” for the entire season (expires 12/31/14). Does not include the USAC racing event on Sunday, June 8, 2014.
- Track Rental for the “Big Track” and the “Outback Track” – The “Big track” and the “Outback track” are available for rent beginning March 1, 2014. The “Big Track” rental fee is $1,400.00 for 4 hours and may be split between a maximum of five-(5) drivers/teams. Only one car is permitted on the track at a time. If an ambulance is requested, it is an additional $75.00 per hour. For nighttime rentals at the “Big Track”, an additional $100.00 per hour will be charged for lights.
The rental price for the “Outback Track” is $400.00 for 4 hours during the day /$500.00 at night and may be split between a maximum of five-(5) drivers/teams. To reserve either track, please call 717-292-1696.
- Free Pit Passes for all Non-Qualifiers in 2014 – Any non-qualifier who starts the a qualifying heat race and fails to qualify for the feature in the Late Model, Street Stock, Xtreme Stock Cars, Legends Cars, Mini Vans and Road Warriors divisions during the regular season point events will receive a complimentary pit pass for the driver for the following week during the regular season from April 5 though September 13. The driver must possess a full annual SSP license in order to be eligible for the complimentary pit pass and pass is not transferable to another driver or to another week beyond the following week.
- 2014 SSP Rules Now Posted on Website – The 2014 SSP Rules for the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Mini Vans and Road Warriors divisions are posted.
- Repeat Fan Discount Continues for 2014 – The popular “Repeat Fan Discount” program will continue at SSP in 2014. There is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week’s events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during and at the end of the season for great prizes. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
Ticket Stubs from the Saturday, November 16, 2013 Final Showdown race may be used for the first three races on April 6, April 13 & April 14.
