MEMORIES OF EAST WINDSOR SPEEDWAY TO BE PART OF MOTORSPORTS 2014 RACE CAR AND TRADE SHOW

OAKS, PA July 19, 2013 . . . The excitement of N.J.'s East Windsor Speedway will come to life when “Memories of East Windsor Speedway” is presented at the huge Motorsports 2014 Race Car and Trade Show at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA, January 10-12, 2014.

Once one of the most successful local short tracks, the one-half mile clay oval has been shuttered since August 23, 2002 when dirt track racing legend Doug Hoffman won the final Modified feature. That night, Stan Janiszewski (Sportsman) and Rob Ormsbee (Street Stocks) also won what turned out to be the last main events for those divisions at Windsor. The track ran its first race on Friday night, June 11, 1965, when Russ Hoek (Modified) and Bob Smith (Limited-Sportsman) annexed the track's initial stock car features.

East Windsor, located in Hightstown, N.J.,was the place to be on Friday nights for dirt track stock car racing fans. They cheered for the top names in the sport at the time, names like Billy Pauch, Pee Wee Griffin, Jimmy Horton, Buzzie Reutimann, Hoffman, Fred Dmuchowski, Mike Grbac, Stan Ploski Jr., Kenny Brightbill and Sammy Beavers in the Modifieds. The track also featured exciting Sportsman and "full-fender" racing; and open-cockpit events.

“Memories of East Windsor Speedway” will be an area in the show that will include race cars that had seen action at the track, memorabilia and many drivers that raced there.

Don Jones and his son Butch ran the facility and were famous for their “my way or the highway” approach to promotion. They operated with an iron fist and it seemed to work as large fields of race cars would perform in front of strong fan turnouts.

Don has since passed away, but Butch Jones will be an important part of the planning for the “Memories of East Windsor Speedway” display. He will be working closely with the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club to coordinate the activities that will include an autograph session with many drivers, from various divisions, that competed on that oval.

The Motorsports 2014 Race Car and Trade Show will be the 29th edition of the popular event presented by Len Sammons Productions. Covering all the available area in the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center the show will feature more than 200 race vehicles representing many different segments of the sport, more than 600 exhibitor spaces, hardcore manufacturers section, FREE industry seminars and much, much more.

As has been the case since the show was started many major national racers and regional racers will be on hand for autograph sessions.

“The mid-winter motorsports happening” continues to be the largest and most successful show of its type on the East Coast and attracts thousands and thousands of attendees.

Exhibit space, going quickly, is available on a first come, first served basis. For information contact Tim Hogue at 609.888.3618. A full color brochure describing the show, booth locations, etc. is available upon request or check in at www.aarn.com for the Motorsports 2014 link.
