NEW
EGYPT, NJ -
When the touring Super DIRTcar Series rolls into New Egypt Speedway on Tuesday,
June 18, the Pennsylvania and New Jersey dirt Modified contingent will be well
represented.
The Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc. 'Dirty Jersey 60' will boast an all-star
field of big-block Modifieds as Friesen-Deyo Promotions, a collaborative effort
involving Modified driving star Stewart Friesen and special events promoter
Brett Deyo, brings the Super DIRTcar Series back to the state-of-the-art New
Egypt Speedway for the first time since 2007. The 60-lap feature offers a $6,000
winner's share from a total purse of more than
$27,500.
Joining the big-block Modifieds on the card are Open vs. Crate Sportsman
in the 'Turnpike 25' paying $750 to win plus lap money and other contingency
awards. The event is open to all 602 Crate and Open Sportsman competitors from
New Egypt and surrounding facilities.
Leading the New Egypt contingent against the DIRTcar stars are Billy Pauch Sr., New Egypt's all-time
leading winner and a five-time point title winner, and defending champion Ryan Godown. Pauch, of Frenchtown,
N.J., owns two Super DIRTcar Series victories at New Egypt: June 22, 2005 and
Aug. 2, 2000. He'll be poised with Kevin Bifulco's No. 1 K&A Excavating
Bicknell.
Godown, of Ringoes, N.J., has eyed the 'Dirty Jersey 60' with enthusiasm
since it was announced last October.
"I can't wait for that show," Godown, multi-time feature winner at New
Egypt this season in Saturday small-block Modified competition. "Going there
with a big-block and no sail panels, I bet you'll see three- and four-wide
racing all night. It's going to be one of those races you don't want to
miss."
Jimmy Horton of Neshanic Station, N.J., enters the 'Dirty Jersey 60' with some big-race momentum in the Garden State. Horton, who drives Dieter Schmidt's Lincoln Auto Body No. 5, won the Race of Champions-sanctioned 'Cabin Fever 60' at New Egypt in March, worth $10,000, and recently topped the George Wingate Classic at his home track, Bridgeport (N.J.) Speedway, on May 26.
From the Keystone State, red-hot Duane Howard of Oley, Pa., brings Glenn
Hyneman's potent Keystone Racing No. 126 to New Egypt. Howard has posted four
consecutive victories at Grandview (Pa.) Speedway, his Saturday home track, and
has also won this season at Big Diamond (Pa.) Speedway and Selinsgrove (Pa.)
Speedway. Hyneman owns a New Egypt win on his resume and beat the best of the
Super DIRTcar Series in a visit to Big Diamond on April 26,
2009.
Craig
Von Dohren,
a three-time Big Diamond Speedway 358-Modified winner and single-time Grandview
victor in '13, heads to New Egypt in Mike Harvey's No. 1c big-block Mod. Von
Dohren, of Oley, Pa., also has a Super DIRTcar Series win to his credit. He won
the most recent Super DIRTcar Series stop at Grandview Speedway on June 15,
2010.
Back in Modified racing in '13 after a stint in the 410 Sprint Cars, Frank Cozze of Wind Gap, Pa., returns
to his former home track in the 'Dirty Jersey 60' event. Cozze, a 2013 Dirt
Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee, is a two-time New Egypt champion (2005 &
'03) with 26 career victories at the 7/16ths-mile facility. He is set to contend
in Norm Hansell's No. 357 Troyer: a brand-new Pat Morrison-powered Troyer raced
just one time.
Two-time New Egypt champion Rick
Laubach, the defending Bridgeport Speedway point title winner, will pilot
Gary and Lori Herrmann's No. 7 in the 'Dirty Jersey 60' event. Laubach, of
Quakertown, Pa., won a DIRTcar-sanctioned big-block event at Volusia (Fla.)
Speedway Park in February.
Former Bridgeport Speedway champion Ryan Watt, the driver of Ron Roberts'
No. 14w from Boyertown, Pa., has set plans to attend the 'Dirty Jersey' event.
Watt, a winner at Bridgeport in 2013, also has a New Egypt victory on his racing
resume.
Other notable Penn-Jersey drivers planning to attend include past Orange
County (N.Y.) Fair Speedway champion, now New Egypt Speedway regular, David Van Horn Jr. of Harmony, N.J.;
Bridgeport stars Eric Kormann of
Vineland, N.J., with the famed Hewlett No. 901, Dave Hunt of Bridgewater, N.J., Wade Hendrickson of Lawrenceville,
N.J., and Dom Buffalino of
Morganville, N.J.; asphalt convert Jimmy
'Showtime' Blewett of Howell, N.J.; part-time racer Brian Kressley of Orefield, Pa.; former Big
Diamond Speedway promoter and veteran racer Dave Dissinger of Mohrsville, Pa.;
recent first-time big-block winner at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway and
breakthrough New Egypt small-block victor Neal Williams of Pittsgrove, N.J.; and
many more.
The DIRTcar contingent will be led by three-time Mr. DIRTcar Modified
champion Matt Sheppard of Waterloo,
N.Y., Brett Hearn of Sussex, N.J.,
Jimmy Phelps of Baldwinsville, N.Y.,
Australia's Peter Britten, Stewart Friesen of Niagara-on-the-Lake,
Ont., and more.
For the 'Dirty Jersey 60' pit gates open at 4 p.m. with the grandstand
gate swinging open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are planned for 6:45 p.m. with qualifying
at 7:15 p.m. A rain date of Wednesday, June 19 is in
place.
Prior to the start of racing, Friesen-Deyo Promotions staff will
circulate the parking areas to reward a group of creative fans with four free
tickets to the evening's events. The most creative tailgaters - with a creative
display or salute to their favorite driver - will receive recognition by show
management and receive complimentary admission.
Grandstand admission is $27 (Adults), $24 (Seniors 65 and Over and
Military with ID), $12 (Students 12-15 years old) and Kids 11 and under are
