Joe ‘’Geezer’’ Fanelli Gears Up For New Challenges In
2013
Exton, Pa. (March 14, 2013) –
‘’This season will make me, or break me’’ says a smiling
Joe ’Geezer’ Fanelli of Exton, Pa. and so far it’s breaking me!! …always the
comedian. After 6 years of traveling with the touring Xcel Chassis 600 Modifieds
in his #22 car, with numerous feature victories the elder statesman has big
changes in store for 2013 and is excited to get things rolling. Racing weekly at
the Grandview Speedway in the Sportsman division will be the ‘new challenge’ and
volunteers have been working feverishly to get things together. Although a new
challenge, it is a very welcome one for sure. After racing at 25 different
tracks throughout 5 states, Geezer looks forward to being close to home weekly
for a change. Racing numerous divisions in the mid nineties was very short lived
due to budget, but the strong desire and hunger to race was always there and
hasn’t shown signs of slowing. ‘’I like to look at this as a work in progress
after 20 years of being in and out of the sport’’… with money always being the
issue for racers, Geezer always found ways to make ends meet... Borrowing
landscape trailers, car pooling with other teams, being careful with inventory
and always promoting sponsors to his best ability so they return, have been the
keys to success for the old guy. ‘’I will do whatever I can to promote
anyone in need if it will help them or our sport grow’’ says the 48 year
old.
An off season sale of all racing equipment had the 2013
season plans up in the air… until a meeting with local businessman Robert
Hollenshead of R. Hollenshead Auto Sales of Manheim, Pa. was arranged and was a
success. Now R. Hollenshead Auto Sales will be the primary sponsor for the #22
Sportsman mount to be driven by Geezer weekly at Grandview. Long time loyal
supporters Delaware Valley Aluminum Corporation and Keystone Air have also
resigned for their 7th year in a row with the old guy. ‘’Without
these folks, I wouldn’t be living my dream, even if just a partial season is the
reality’’ said a grateful Geezer. The 22 team will have the web site updated by
Elite 3 Web Designs shortly, so check out www.22racing.com often. The 22 team will also be promoting the
National Hemophilia Foundation (Delaware Valley Chapter) and hope to have the
car and driver at a fund raising event in June. Crew help so desperately needed
for the bigger car so far has Bob ‘’Chief’’ Auch, Al Yusko, Mike Kelly, Dan
Lane, Ken Loux and JD Nathan as volunteers. Geezer is hoping to connect with a
modified team who is willing to give or sell off used but good tires. The 22
team has purchased some parts along with a 2006 Bicknell that was shared by Kurt
and Amanda Spotts a few years back. A tired motor from ‘’Plumber Crack Motors’’
of New Jersey will hopefully hold up and the lettering was just done by Joe
Adams. Plans are a ‘’go’’ to shake down the car at Big Diamond Sunday March
17th, then again at Grandview Saturday March 30th before
the official season opener April 6th. Stop by and say hello !! Anyone
interested in joining the team, receiving a weekly ‘’Geezer Gazette’’ race
report or to work out a tire deal can contact Geezer at 2geezer2@gmail.com.
