SMALL
CAR DIVISION STARS HEADLINE TUESDAY NIGHT PRESENTATION OF THE 6TH
ANNUAL IRCO DIRT TRACK HEROES CAR SHOW AT PHILLIPSBURG
MALL
After a
rousing opening debut on Sunday, the Sixth Annual IRCO sponsored Dirt Track
Heroes Show at the Phillipsburg Mall in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, rolled into
the second day with a look at some of the small division raceways in the local
area. Small car division racing has stepped up in leaps and bounds in recent
years and as the costs associated with full size cars continue to spiral
upwards, the small car divisions have seen a tremendous growth and seemingly
affordable and fun way to enjoy his or hers racing experiences. The week long
show is well represented by the small car divisions of racing and the loyal
racing fans came out last evening to enjoy listening to the drivers talk about
their racing experiences and their goals associated with the new racing season
ahead.
IRCO
Community Federal Credit Union took center stage at the event with show sponsors
Reagle Dodge, Caffe Europa and IRCO Vice President Greg Collins greeted the
racing crowd with his opening remarks. The Mall walkways are filled with 121
race cars from all aspects of the motorsports world filled the Mall spaces and
the event staff for the show are brimming with confidence as one of the largest
opening day crowds ever opened the show Sunday. Another nice crowd was on
hand on Monday to once again take in the show and see their favorite drivers.
Supporting
the show on Monday evening were speedways and series Borgers Speedway, Action
Track USA, Snydersville, X-Cel Modified Series, ATQMRA Series and Oreville all
taking part in the interviews. Tuesday night is a special night at the Mall as
"The Stars of Tomorrow" the quarter midget contingent will have the opportunity
to talk about their racing careers and many will be giving their first ever
interview. It is always a fun night so come out and see young stars in action
behind the mike.
Steve Pados
and Bobby Stull proceeded into the driver interviews sponsored by Reagle Dodge
and Caffe Europa and many familiar names took part in the interview sessions.
Speedway Entertainment Slingshot guru Richie Tobias was on hand to chat about
the concept of the Slingshot and SpeedSTR cars and how the popularity of the
cars grow with each passing season and now have surpassed the thousand mark in
construction. Tobias also laid out the parameters for his new racing endeavor,
the Jeff Hogue Real Estate Action Track USA speedway, that Tobias and partner
Doug Rose have taken over the reigns to for the 2013 Racing season.
The speedway,
formerly known as the Kutztown Fairgrounds, has undergone a major facelift with
Tobias overseeing the rebuliding of the track with higher banking and wider
racing avenues to open up the passing lanes for the driving stars who will be
competing there. Tobais also thanked all the fans on hand for their support
with the growth of Slingshot racing.
Drivers who
interviewed during the one and a half hour show included Borger Speedway
drivers, Cody Quagliato, Bridget Conti, and the Silfee Brothers Austin and
Jared. Borgers Speedway owner Glenn Borger was on hand and was introduced and
Assistant Promoter, Photographer, and Media Correspondent Bob Snyder talked
about the aggressive season ahead for the now paved 1/7 mile racing facility.
Snydersville and Oreville Raceways were represented by Promoter Barry
Greenzweig, Announcer and driver Alex Greenzweig, Champion "Crazy" Eddie Geiger
and Kartster Mike Bocher. The" Cadillac Man" Kurt Bettler was on hand to talk
about his great season behind the wheel and his association with the new MMF
Chassis Company. The Xcel Modifieds were represented by "The Abbey-nator" Abbey
Price who was the Rookie of the Year last season with the traveling group. "The
Communicator" Mathew Gaughan stopped by to chat about his second season behind
the wheel of a Legend race car he drives at the Bethel Motor Speedway. Jeff
Polenz, the father of NASCAR driving star David Polenz was on hand and gave a
quick update on the Polenz Family's racing endeavors for the 2013 racing season
and why they could not be present for this year's show.
The longtime
broadcasting team of Ed and Steve Pados from Gasoline Alley fame, veteran
announcer Bobby Stull, Bridgeport and Thunder announcer Jeff Ahlum and former
Lake Mocatek co-announcer Justin Beltrame will head up the announcing team for
the week long show. IRCO Vice President Greg Collins, who also serves as the
noted historian of the Harmony Speedway, is expected to have much of his
memorabilia from the Harmony Speedway for the event and Beltrame will once again
spearhead and show the vast collection of Lake Mocatek material he has collected
over the years.
The IRCO Dirt
Track Heroes Car Show has a must have event T-shirt done exclusively for the
show, highlighting many of our racing heroes who have passed away in the past
year. The great keepsake event souvenir program book has many great articles
regarding our racing heroes. The Phillipsburg Mall is open Sunday 11 AM to 6 PM
