BIG
DIAMOND SPEEDWAY MALL SHOW COMPLETE - TRACK READIES FOR OPENING
DAY.
MINERSVILLE, PA - March 10th, 2013
The Fairlane Village Mall
in Pottsville was the sight for the 2013 Big Diamond Speedway Car Show. Brisk
crowds attended the show all week, with an extremely large crowd attending the
Friday evening driver interviews, awards ceremony, and tire changing
contest.
Thirty cars were on display during the week long event.
Divisions represented were 358 Modifieds, Sportsman, Roadrunners, Micro Sprints,
Enduro Cars, Slingshots, Quarter Midgets, and URC Sprints. An added attraction
was a 1983 sprint car restored and displayed by former modified champion Paul
Koch.
Show awards went to Jarrett Davenport for best support division car
(Slingshot), Kyle Killian for best Roadrunner, Brad Arnold for best
Modified/Sportsman, and Kevin Beach for overall best of show. Roadrunner driver
Terry Kramer and his partner Nicole Martin narrowly won the tire changing
contest by .8 of a second over fellow Roadrunner driver TJ Fitzpatrick and his
lovely wife Laura.
Attention now shifts to the season kick-off on Sunday,
March 17th with a test a tune for all classes beginning at 12 noon. At 4:00 PM
that same day we will present the first Enduro race of the 2013
season.
Then on Sunday, March 24th at 4:00 PM we present opening day
featuring the 358 Modifieds, Sportsman and Roadrunners. On this day, the 358
Modifieds will race for $3,000 to win, the Sportsman $1,000 to win, and the
Roadrunners $300 to win.
A little less than two weeks later on Friday,
April 5th, at 8:15 PM Big Diamond is excited to present the first ever Money in
the Mountains 40 lap big block/small block challenge race. This race will pay
$7,500 to win and $500 to take the green. Interest in this event is running
high, with invaders Stewart Friesen, Pat Ward, Billy Decker, Larry Wight, Ryan
Godown, Billy Pauch Jr. and a host of other already committing to attend this
show. Throw is track regulars Craig Von Dohren, Jeff Strunk, Doug Manmiller,
Meme Desantis, and Frank Cozze just to name a few, and this is destined to be an
event you do not want to miss.
An added attraction for the Money in the
Mountains event is the 'Fans Of Big Diamond/Dog Pound Hard Luck Award'. This
award will give one "unlucky" racer who fails to make the show a cool $700 to
help ease the pain.
Also on the card that day will be the Sportsman and
Roadrunner divisions.
