BIG DIAMOND PREPARES FOR 2012 SEASON
Season Kickoff at Fair Lane Mall Show
With just five weeks remaining before the roar of engines returns to the Big Diamond Speedway, there is a lot of activity surrounding the Schuylkill County racing facility.
Race cars will enter the Fair Lane Village Mall at the close of business on Sunday, March 4th for the start of the Big Diamond 2012 Race Car Show. The cars will be on display throughout the week with driver interviews taking place on Friday night, March 9th, highlighting the event. Space is still available - contact Tim Long at (484) 256-5149 for mall show information.
Big Diamond will also be participating in the 27th Annual Racing Legends Reunion and Car Show at the Fairgrounds Square Mall in Reading, PA from February 19-25. 2012 Season Schedules and pit licenses will be available at both shows.
Then a few short weeks later, Big Diamond opens its gates for a Test & Tune on Sunday, March 25th to be followed by the 40th season opener just one week later and it's no April Fool on Sunday, April 1st. Modifieds, Sportsman and Roadrunners will all compete in the 2012 season opener.
April 7th marks the Saturday night opener at Big Diamond with five divisions competing. The ARDC Midgets will open their 2012 season and share the racing card with the Excel 600cc Modifieds, Speedsters, Pro Stocks and Thunder Cars for the first Saturday night race card of the 2012 season.
A 4pm start time will mark the return of racing action to Big Diamond on Easter Sunday. In addition to a $4,000 to win, 40 lap feature for the Modifieds, there will also be a full show of Sportsman and Roadrunners. The Modifieds will follow RoC type rules but Delaware engines will be permitted on this race day. Racing in all three divisions will be non-point events. This Easter Sunday event will have something for the whole family as Big Wheel Races, an Easter Egg Hunt and coloring contests will be held to help to celebrate the special day.
April will be a busy month as the first of the AMSOIL Sportsman Series races is scheduled for Sunday, April 14th with a $1,000 payday to the winner of the 20 lap Sportsman Feature event. A regular show of Modifieds, Roadrunners and the first appearance of the open competition sprint cars will all be part of the Sunday show on April 14th.
Big Diamond has something to offer every racing fan this season. If Big Diamond doesn't have it, then it can't be racing!
June 1st will mark the First Annual Appalachian Late Model Speed Week at the Big Diamond Speedway - a doubleheader program with the Modifieds. Back by popular demand will be the USAC Sprints on Friday, June 8th.
And, of course, the ever popular Big Diamond special events - the Georgie Stevenson Memorial Race sponsored by Ken's Tire on Friday, July 6th and the end of the season Coalcracker events for the Modifieds, Sportsman and Roadrunners.
With the regular Modified features paying $2,750 to win as well as the other purse increases that have been announced, fans are guaranteed an action packed season of racing at the Big Diamond Speedway.
