RACING LEGENDS REUNION

GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY TO BE HONORED. . . .

27TH ANNUAL RACING LEGENDS REUNION & CAR SHOW TO OPEN WEEK LONG RUN SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19 AT THE FAIRGROUNDS SQUARE MALL

2012 will mark fifty years that the Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA has been entertaining race fans at their one-third mile high-banked dirt oval.

Throughout this stretch of success, the Berks County business has been under the leadership of the Rogers Family, almost unheard of in today's world where race tracks open and close, often with different promoters or track operators. But for the Grandview Speedway, it has always been the Rogers Family, an accomplishment enjoyed by very few race tracks. The 27th Annual Racing Legends Reunion & Car Show will return to the Fairgrounds Square Mall in Reading, PA and part of the week long event will be a salute to Grandview Speedway as they launch their fiftieth consecutive season of entertaining race fans. Grandview Speedway has been a fixture at the annual event held each year at the Fairgrounds Square Mall, taking part in the show in each of the prior twenty-six events. The Racing Legends Reunion & Car Show will open on Sunday, February 19 and continue through Saturday, February 25 and you'll find the Grandview Speedway display located in Center Court of the Mall.

The Fairgrounds Square Mall now sits upon the very site that was once home to the Reading Fairgrounds Speedway, one of the most popular and well respected weekly dirt tracks in the country. For the twenty-seventh year, this Annual Car Show will salute the memories of racing past, and at the same time, launch the start to the 2012 local short track racing season. Unique to this show is that it is open to all speedways, organizations and racing clubs, providing a joint opportunity to promote short track racing in general and grow the sport for all who are involved.

Bob and Donna Miller, founders and owners of the show have set the example of bringing tracks together and how working together can create positive results. "In years past, when race car shows took place in Malls, it was pretty much set-up by a local speedway where they promoted only their track," Miller continued to say, "What we did with this show and the Phillipsburg Mall Show was to create this environment of working together with positive motives for all involved, and it has worked great". This show has always offered an open door to all tracks and organizations, a sign of collaboration and working together that the Millers have worked towards for years.

Dave Kelly who now lives in Florida will be returning to Reading for the Friday night Legends Reunion. Kelly was the winner of the historic final event at the Reading Fairgrounds and was a former Grandview Speedway Champion. After the closing of Reading, Kelly continued to be a big winner in the modifieds before moving into the URC sprints where he was a multi-time champion. Kelly also did his share of 410 sprint car racing and won on numerous occasions. Kelly is excited to make a return to the Fairgrounds where he enjoyed so much success.

Currently in the planning is a model race to take place on Saturday, February 25. For more information, please contact Mike Feltenberger at STARTERONE@aol.com. Another Saturday activity will be a walking tour of the Fairgrounds property to identify the layout of the race track. Times and details will be announced shortly. The events and activities are free to the public.

Race teams, venders anyone wishing to display or take part in the 27th Annual Racing Legends Reunion & Car Show is asked to contact Bob or Donna Miller at 443-513-4456. There is a minimal fee to display.

Show founder Bob Miller and co-event organizer Brett Deyo are actively working at making the 2012 event one of the biggest show is years. There is a lot of energy for 2012 especially as the shows salutes 50 years of the Grandview Speedway.
