HURRICANE WARNINGS, CONCERNS FOR SAFETY OF ALL, FORCE CANCELLATION OF SATURDAY AND SUNDAY EVENTS AT GRANDVIEW
BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 27, 2011 . . . Earlier in the week an earthquake shook things up in the neighborhood and then hurricane warnings were the talk of the area but plans for Saturday night racing continued.
However promoter Bruce Rogers and his track crew could not win the battle with Ma Nature as the forecast for heavy rains and winds forced Rogers to surrender to the elements and cancel the four feature racing show that had been planned for Grandview Speedway on Saturday night.
“We did not want to put anyone in an unsafe position if we tried to run a racing event,” said Rogers. “All indications are that we are facing very serious weather conditions so we felt it was in the best interest of everyone involved to cancel.”
The rainout marks the eighth time this season that Saturday night racing has either been postponed or cancelled.
Plans for the rescheduling of the Vince’s Towing Legends Owners race and the Sidewinder Sprints, special events that had been planned for Saturday, are still being discussed.
In addition the NEETS Enduro events scheduled for Sunday, August 28th have been postponed until a later date. That date is still to be determined.
The NASCAR 358 Modifieds and Late Models will return to action on Saturday, September 3rd at 7:30 p.m. with the Late Models being in the limelight with their 30-lap Memorial Classic paying at least $1,200 to win.
Track official Mark Garman has been busy for the past few weeks putting together a long list of sponsors and supporters for the Late Model event that will honor the memory of many people who were involved with racing at the Bechtelsville oval and have passed on.
Fans will be paying attention to both Randy Stoudt and Chuck Schutz. Stoudt will be trying to put his Cheers Tavern/TP Trailers entry in victory lane for the fourth time this season and if he does he will tie the all time win record of 58 held by Jon Kellner Sr. Schutz, a four time champion, will be looking to wrap up his fifth title with a strong effort in the 30-lap feature event.
And the NASCAR 358 Modified action will feature eight time track champion Jeff Strunk, six time champion Craig VonDohren and defending champion Duane Howard as they battle for the 2011 NASCAR track title and the $10,000 that goes with the title.
The modifieds will top off their part of the doubleheader show with a 30-lap feature race.
The point battle in both divisions will come to a close on Saturday, September 10th when the Green Lane Wm. Penn/4 Star Lettering Night will close out the battle for the championships.
Coming up on Saturday, September 17th is the $20,000 to win BPG Racing Freedom 76 featuring many of the top names in modified stock car racing in this 41st annual classic.
Advance tickets for the Freedom 76 are now being sold on Saturday nights at the speedway office. Adults pay $30 while youngsters 6 through 11 pay $10 and kids under 6 are admitted for free.
Lap sponsorships are available for just $10 for the Freedom 76. The money goes to the driver that leads the lap chosen and the sponsor gets a mention on the public address system and is listed in the special edition track magazine. Contact Ernie Saxton at Esaxton144@aol.com or 215.752.7797 for information or to make sponsorship arrangements.
For information on racing at Grandview Speedway telephone 610.754.7688 or check in at www.grandviewspeedway.com.
