Do you know your Civil War History?
NORTH & SOUTH TO BATTLE AGAIN IN CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA, THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG MOVES TO THE BATTLE AT LINCOLN, TUESDAY, JULY 12
In 1863 with President Lincoln in the White House, the North and the South experienced the costliest battle of the American Civil War. Casualties exceeded 51,000, and the Battle of Gettysburg lasted three days. The North, under the leadership of Major General George G. Meade held their ground and forced the Confederates under the leadership of General Robert E. Lee to retreat, making this battle the turning point of the war.
Some one-hundred and forty-eight years later, another battle is forming and less then fifteen miles from the historic battle grounds of Gettysburg. The new battle ground is the three-eighth mile Lincoln Speedway and once again, it's the battle of the North and South all taking place on Tuesday night, July 12. The soldiers will be plentiful as General Duane Howard wearing his BPG stripes takes on Northern rival, General Steward Friesen, both leading a host of others. Guns and cannons will not be the weapons this time, but rather the deep throated high powered Big Block Modifieds and it all takes place on neutral grounds, almost, totally unknown territory. Rather then a three day battle, expect this one to last sixty laps and when the smoke and dust settles, the victor will pocket $5,000.
History will again be written in the Pigeon Hills of Central Pennsylvania.
The Race of Champions Big Block Modifieds brought to you by Pioneer Pole Building (PPB) will share the battle ground with the MACH 1 Chassis 358/360 Sprints in a turn of the century doubleheader. Don't expect to see the Confederate flag waiving, but instead, the NAPA Auto Parts banners will proudly fly as history is written at the Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, PA For the Big Block Modifieds, this will be their first visit to Lincoln Speedway in over twenty-five years.
General Howard will have plenty of soldiers to represent the South with a likely army to include Richie Pratt, Rick Laubach, Kevin Hirthler, Craig VonDohren, Doug Manmiller, Billy Pauch, Ryan Watt and Jimmy Horton. Expected to follow General Friesen to the battle field is Danny Johnson, Pat Ward, Bobby Varin and Brian Weaver just to name a few. It's hard to predict who will be left standing at the end of this battle, but one thing is for sure, no one has an advantage going into this one.
Both the PPB ROC Modifieds and the MACH1 Chassis 358/360 Sprints will compete in qualifying events leading up to the 60 lap ROC Modified Feature and the 25 lap MACH1 Chassis 358/360 Sprint feature. Time trials will not be on this program and the first of the qualifying heat race events will take the green flag at 7:30 PM.
Pre-entries for this event are already being received and for the sprint cars includes Mark Smith, Daryn Pittman, Pat Cannon, Aaron Ott, Keith Prutzman, Dave Ely, Blane Heimbach, Chad Trout, Shane Smith, Jeff Rohrbaugh and Glenndon Forsythe. In the modified ranks, Duane Howard, Richie Pratt, Craig VonDohren, Doug Manmiller, Kevin Hirthler, Steward Friesen and Rich Laubach have indicated their plans to be at this event.
Lincoln Speedway is a very popular and "fan friendly" track in the tri-state area, offering great unobstructed viewing from every seat in the grandstands. The infield is open for watching the races by entering through the fourth turn tunnel. The pits are asphalt, with a slight elevation and great lighting a so fans can watch all the pit action as well.
The three-eighth mile Lincoln Speedway offers it all, the high speeds that you would see at the "big tracks" with the flair and excitement of the short track "bull rings". At Lincoln Speedway, you'll have it all.
Thanks to the strong sponsorship support from NAPA Auto Parts, Pioneer Pole Buildings and MACH 1 Chassis, this star filled event will offer a very reasonable admission price of $20 for adults, $5 for children 6-11 and children under the age of 6 will be admitted free. The pit fee will be $25 and a pit license will not be required.
