REST IN PEACE WARREN RUFFNER

The racing community has lost a great friend, and announcer with the recent passing of Warren Ruffner

Warren Ruffner



Warren C. Ruffner, Spring Township, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, in his residence under hospice care.

He was the husband of Joanne (Weir) Ruffner.



Born in West Reading, he was a son of the late Charles and Mable (Meyer) Ruffner.



He served in the U.S. Army, 722nd Military Police Battalion.



Warren was the sales manager for WHUM Radio in Reading. He was known as the voice of the Reading Stock Car Association and announced races at the Reading Fairgrounds and at tracks from Canada to Florida.



He worked in real estate at Wertz Hoffman Parks and last worked at Berkshire GMAC Realtors before retiring in 2005.



He was an avid golfer and member of the Reading Country Club.



In addition to his wife, Warren is survived by his son, Allen C. Ruffner, and his wife, Doreen (Ertz) Ruffner, Noblesville, Ind.; two grandchildren, two step grandchildren, a brother, Roy, Shillington; and a sister, Ethel Whitehead, a resident of Berks Heim, Bern Township.



The Rite of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, at St. Ignatius Loyola RC Church, 2810 St. Albans Drive, Sinking Spring, along with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Ignatius Loyola RC Church at the above address.
