GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY MAKES CHANGE IN OPENING DATE SHOW
BECHTELSVILLE, PA January 20, 2010 . . . The opening night show at Grandview Speedway, set for Saturday, April 3 in the recently released 2010 schedule, will not feature a 40-lap main event for the NASCAR 358 Modifieds. Instead the opener of the 48th season of stock car racing at the Berks County oval will now be topped by a 30-lap feature for the Modifieds and a 20-lapper for the Late Models.
The 40-lapper, which pays an increased purse, featuring the 358 Modifieds will now be run on Saturday, April 10th. The Late Models will be part of that show. All the Saturday events during the month of April will offer a 7 p.m. starting time.
The change in the schedule gives Modified racers the opportunity to run one event and, perhaps, work out some kinks in the new equipment before going after the big bucks being offered in the 40-lap championship race.
“The change has caught the attention of the racers,” said track marketing director Ernie Saxton. “We have used the big race as the opener for quite a few years so when a change like this is made it does get a lot of attention. It will be a unique way to get the season started.”
Another change on the recently released schedule has the Steel Block Bandits Late Models, a traveling organization, being featured in a 40-lapper on Saturday, July 31st. The Late Model racers that race on a regular basis at Grandview are invited to be part of this first time appearance of the Steel Block Bandits. The NASCAR 358 Modifieds are being given the night off so Sportsman stock cars will be the second part of the doubleheader.
The annual free-to-the-public practice session is set for Saturday, March 27th starting at noon. It is open to all divisions of racing.
The complete 2010 schedule can be found at www.grandviewspeedway.com.
Fans interested in obtaining a season pass which gives them a reserved seat for the Saturday night races between the opener and the final event in September can send a check for $300 for each seat. The check along with the full name of the person that will be using the seat(s) and complete contact information along with a self addressed stamped envelope should be sent to Grandview Speedway, 87 Wilt Road, Bechtelsville, PA 19505.
