ACCORD, NY – Accord Speedway is set to lead the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP into the summer stretch.
On Tuesday, July 5 (rain date: July 6), New York Truck Parts Inc. presents the ‘Battle of the Bullring 4’ at the Ulster County quarter-mile oval. The Gary and Donna Palmer/BD Motorsports Media LLC co-promotion is headlined by the STSS Modifieds racing for $5,400 to the winner (54 laps) plus the Open vs. Crate 602 Sportsman battling for $1,000 to win and $100 to start and the Slingshots in a $300-to-win 20-lap event.
Associate sponsorship for the event comes from Halmar International, Zubi’s Racing, Lobas Productions, Copper Works Mechanical and Crystal Works Inc.
Both the STSS Modified and Open Sportsman circuits are featured at the Accord event.
Erick Rudolph of Ransomville, N.Y., leads the STSS Modified standings into Accord in search of the $12,000 Halmar International North Region title. Rudolph expects to make his debut at Accord in the ‘Battle of the Bullring 4’ spectacular.
It has been an ultra-consistent season for Rudolph on the STSS, as he holds a lead of 46 points over defending North region champion Stewart Friesen of Sprakers, N.Y. Andy Bachetti of Sheffield, Mass., sits third in points, 66 behind the leader. Bachetti won the series title in 2014. Danny Creeden of Wurtsboro, N.Y., (82 points back) is fourth and Tommy Meier of Waldwick, N.J., who won the opener at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y., is fifth, 84 points behind the leader.
Completing the top-10 in points are Danny Johnson of Rochester, N.Y.; Matt DeLorenzo of Cropseyville, N.Y.; Mike Mahaney of King Ferry, N.Y.; Billy Van Inwegen of Sparrowbush, N.Y.; and Anthony Perrego of Montgomery, N.Y.
All of the top-10 drivers are expected to attend the ‘Battle of the Bullring’ event.
The STSS North Region has contested four events this season with a quartet of different winners: Meier at Orange County Fair Speedway in April; Ryan Watt of Boyertown, Pa., at Big Diamond Speedway (Minersville, Pa.) May 17 (a combo event); Chad Cook of Deposit, N.Y., at N.Y.’s Thunder Mountain Speedway May 29; and Matt Sheppard of Waterloo, N.Y., at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., June 7.
Could Accord produce the series’ fifth different winner in five races?
In STSS Sportsman racing, Shane Jablonka of Poughquag, N.Y., leads the point standings after two events have been completed: the opener at Big Diamond on May 17 and most recently the second event at I-88 Speedway in Afton, N.Y., June 21. The May 29 stop at Thunder Mountain was postponed to September due to rain during heat races.
Jablonka holds a scant four-point edge over Owego, N.Y., driver Brian White, a four-time winner already this season at Thunder Mountain Speedway.
New Jersey’s Brandon Grosso won the STSS Sportsman opener at Big Diamond and Jimmy Wells, an Accord regular, topped the I-88 event.
