Bellinger, Ulrich, & Spayd Lead List of First Time Winners On Pink Out Night at Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway on Saturday, 6/2

Newmanstown, PA -  It's no secret that all race drivers want to win, especially those who are considered to be among the best at what they do. For some, the thirst for victory is almost unquenchable, unless they are the first to cross the finish line. In the case of Middletown, DE's Cameron Bellinger, the desire to win that burns in his belly is so hot, it sometimes robs him of a top finish because he is trying so hard to get to the head of the pack.

  But that was not the case on Saturday night as Bellinger rocketed to his first 600cc Micro-Sprint feature win at Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway, masterfully handling lapped traffic and keeping his competitors a safe distance behind his Quickel Deer Farm/ Betts Garage/ Mercado-Bellinger No. 6.

  Joining Bellinger in the winner's circle on Kim's Kreations Pink Out Night at the speedway were Seth Spayd (All Star Slingshots Slide at the Clyde IV); Tyler Ulrich (270cc); Jason Swavely (Sportsman); Dave Ravel (Sports n' Turf 250cc Four-Stroke); and Jas Hehnly (125cc). 

  The very successful Pink Out Night, coordinated by Kim Glass of Kim's Kreations, raised money through the sale of special event T-Shirts and caps, a 50/50 drawing, and a Chinese Auction that featured 22 terrific raffle prizes. All of the proceeds - and the grand total was $2100 - are being donated to the Breast Cancer Research program at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. This was the first of four Kim's Kreations Pink Out Nights scheduled for area speedways throughout the 2016 season.

  In addition to the funds raised for Breast Cancer Research, Glass also sold lap money and special award sponsorship to benefit the drivers competing in the Slide at the Clyde IV, a National Tour event for the All Star Slingshot division.

  Will Urkuski darted from the pole position to lead the first eight tours of the 600cc Micro-Sprint headliner. He was hounded by Bellinger and Austin Bishop, who wrestled with one another for second while also attempting to duck under the leader during the opening laps. 

  Bellinger finally cleared Bishop, then went after Urkuski. He threw a slide job in turns one and two, but Urkuski crossed him over and went back in front. Bellinger went right back to the slider in three and four, and this time he was successful, blasting off the corner to lead the ninth circuit. It was a lead that he would not give up, although Bishop, Mike Rutherford, and others remained within striking distance thanks to occasional yellow flags that slowed the pace of the 25-lap race.

  Navigating his way through lapped traffic permitted his pursuers to close in, but Bellinger cleared the traffic quickly enough to maintain the top spot, while Bishop and Rutherford found themselves dealing with Bradley Brown, Heath Hehnly, and 16th-starter Kyle Spence as the laps clicked off in rapid fashion.

  Bellinger throttled to a well deserved victory, taking the checkered by almost one-second over Bishop. Brown ended up third ahead of Hehnly and Spence.

  Heat winners included Brown, Shaun Brandel, and Zach Light. Chris Gerhart was the consolation race winner. There were 27 race teams signed in for 600cc competition on Saturday.

  This is just the second full season of All Star Slingshot action for Shillington, Pa's Seth Spayd, but the talented teen is already winning some big races. On Saturday night, Spayd notched the first National Tour triumph of his short career as he recorded the victory in the fourth annual Slide at the Clyde. And he had to hold off a former National Slingshot Champion - who as also riding a giant wave of momentum heading into the event - to score the win at Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway.

  Driving the Daryl Tillman Team REMAX of Reading No. 10s, Spayd recorded the best average finish in the dual heat race format. That feat earned him a cash bonus from Joe Kepple and the pole position for the 25-lap main event. He battled Dave Carraghan and the rim-riding Dylan Hoch in the early stages of the race before pulling away, leaving Carraghan and Hoch to tussle for the runner-up spot. 

  Hoch, who registered a pair of Slingshot victories in the four days leading up to the Slide at the Clyde, eventually dispatched Carraghan and began his pursuit of the leader. Utilizing the high groove, the 2014 National Slingshot Champion launched his No. 35 off the corners and closed dramatically on Spayd, who opened the gap again as he accelerated off the bottom lane at both ends of the race track. This entertaining pattern continued lap after lap, with Hoch never quite able to get the run he needed to dive under Spayd entering the corners.

  At the finish, it was Spayd crossing the stripe by just over a half-second ahead of Hoch, with Carraghan hanging on for third place cash. Chris Kurtz made a late race charge to finish fourth and Henry Anderson picked up the Best Family Racing Hard Charger Award by picking his way from 14th at the start to a fifth place finish.

  With 27 All Star Slingshots on hand, Round One heat race winners were Jared Silfee, Taylor Mills, and Mike Glass. Winning heats in Round Two were Cody Kline, Spayd, and Hoch. Alex Yankowski captured the B-Main victory.

  Aidan Svanda was voted the Best Family Racing Hard Luck Driver of the race after he was collected in someone else's incident, and the resulting damage forced him to retire from the race with just eight laps complete.

  Chris Kurtz received the Rowe's Graphics Fast Lap of the Feature Award by turning the quickest lap of the main event.

  Spayd picked up the Shred Racing Photos Halfway Leader Bonus.

  Denver, Pa's Tyler Ulrich and his father/crew chief, Chad, have been frustrated beyond belief over the past few seasons as they battled engine issues in the 270cc Micro-Sprint Class. On Saturday night, all that frustration melted away as Ulrich passed a strong running Mike Uhrich on lap 19 to snare the top spot in the 25-lap feature. Ulrich had come through an exciting four-car battle for the runner-up position with Richie Hartman, Mike Rutherford, and Mike Skias.

  Once in front, Ulrich had to survive a restart with two to go, and he had Rutherford and Bradley Brown lined up right behind him. No worries, though, as Ulrich gassed his Hurst Exteriors No. 42u to a 0.672-second victory over Rutherford, Brown, Uhrich, and Hartman. 

  Ulrich, Billy Logeman, and Brown won heat races for the 25-car field of 270cc racers. Ed Kenderdine was credited with the consolation race victory.

   Jason Swavely, a two-time Sportsman Class point champion, picked up the ride in the Schenck Racing No. 92 because its regular wheel-twister, Sami Schenck, is studying abroad this summer. Swavely made the most of his opportunity, threading a path from tenth on the starting grid to challenge Toby Blumenshine for the lead in the Sportsman 25-lapper on Saturday.

  The duo swapped the top spot a few times before Swavely, with his right-rear tire planted firmly against the outside guardrail, took command for good on lap 19. The driver from Fleetwood, Pa. flew under the checkered with a comfortable margin over Blumenshine. Last week's winner, Anthony Yerger, wound up third ahead of Dan Lane Jr. and Ava Bellinger.

  Tyler Ulrich, Devin Adams, and Tyler Reinhardt were victorious in Sportsman heat races while Lane notched the consolation win. Twenty-eight Sportsman Micros took part in Saturday's event.

  Reading's Dave Ravel started on the outside of the front row of the Sports n' Turf 250cc Four-Stroke main, and he shot to the lead at the drop of the green. Ravel, a former Four-Stroke point champ, led all the way to record his first triumph of the season. 

  Point leader Kassidy Michael chased Ravel to the checkered flag, with Jarrett Imler, Eddie Nocera, and Zak Vickers completing the top five.

  Nocera and Michael were heat race winners as 15 of the Four-Strokes signed in for competition on Saturday.

  Jas Hehnly, from Stevens, Pa., shook off the bad luck that has plagued him this season and won his first of the year in the 125cc Class on Saturday night. Hehnly led all the way to record the victory over Austin Bishop, who was driving in relief of Kyler Heiney as Kyler recovers from some health issues. Devin Adams, substituting for Alexis Sheely while Sheely enjoys a school trip to Germany, finished third. Zack Hollinger and Tajae Adams rounded out the top five.

  With 19 of the 125cc racers in the pit area, Bishop and William Manotti scored heat race victories. 

  This Saturday, July 2nd, the second annual Star Spangled Havoc event will take center stage at Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway. The ARDC Midgets make their second appearance of the season and a 30-lap feature will headline the program. Wingless 600cc Firecracker Frenzy presented by Dayton Parts will also be part of the activities, along with the Hurst Exteriors Clash at the Clyde for wingless 270cc Micro-Sprints. The 600cc portion of Star Spangled Havoc is also the second leg of the Tri-Track Series, with race one occurring Friday night at Linda's Speedway and the finale taking place on July 13 at the JeffreyHogueRealtor.com Action Track USA on the Kutztown Fairgrounds.

  On Saturday, July 2nd, gates will open at 3:30 p.m. Warm-ups for the wingless 270cc and 600cc cars will begin at 5:30, with qualifying heats going green at 6:00. Heat in the motors for ARDC will take place following the 270cc and 600cc heat races, and warm-ups for the mighty Midgets will take place at 8 p.m.

  Grandstand admission for Star Spangled Havoc is $12 for adults (ages 13 and over). Youth (ages 12 and under) will be admitted free on July 2nd. Pit passes will cost $30 and car entry for the wingless 270cc and 600cc teams is $50. With 40 or more cars entered (per class), the 270cc and 600cc features will pay $1,000 to win and at least $100 to take the green.

  Alex Bright won the ARDC Midget main in April's No Wing Spring Fling, and Ryan Greth captured the inaugural ARDC event at the Clyde in July of 2015. They'll be back on Saturday to try for a second victory on the progressively banked oval, but they'll have a host of other competitors who are also hungry to win at Clyde Martin. Brendan Bright has been the hottest driver on the ARDC circuit in recent weeks, and he's got 600cc experience at the Clyde to make him a solid threat for the win. Brett Arndt, Trevor Kobylarz, Danny Stratton, Brett Wanner, Kyle Spence, and many more will battle for the Star Spangled Havoc triumph.
