MINERSVILLE, PA – On the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP, North meets South in Pennsylvania’s Schuylkill County.
For the only time this season, the Halmar International North Region and Velocita-USA South Region big-block/small-block Modifieds collide for a combined point event on Tuesday, June 6 at Big Diamond Speedway. The ‘Anthracite Assault’ provides the meeting ground as Modifieds ‘mine for Modified excitement’ in the Keystone State Coal Region.
Headlining the tripleheader program is a 50-lap STSS Modified event ($5,000 to win, $1,000 for 10th, $400 to start) offering points toward both the North Region $12,500 championship battle and South Region $10,000 champion’s prize.
Also on the card: STSS Sportsman (25 laps) paying $1,000 to the winner and the Big Diamond Roadrunner division (15 laps).
Big Diamond’s location and size create a true battleground for the STSS North and South drivers.
During the last two seasons, the “south” has risen. In 2016, Boyertown, Pa., driver Ryan Watt held off the advances of Canadian-born Stewart Friesen to take home the $5,000-plus top prize. A year prior, Hellertown, Pa., native Rick Laubach kept Friesen at bay for the win.
Unique to this event, Modifieds will utilize sail panels for the ‘Anthracite Assault’ – the only time all season at the three-eighths-mile oval.

Big Diamond Speedway is a three-eighths-mile clay oval located in Minersville, Pa., just miles from Pottsville. The facility offers free parking, state-of-the-art concession areas and restrooms and not a “bad seat” in the house, with hillside grandstands overlooking the on-track action.
