FRIESEN WINS CAREER FIRST IN FRIENDS OF MIKE EVENT

Jesse Hill Earns Fourth Crate/Sportsman Win of the Season

Several times in the past, Stewart Friesen's efforts have come up short at the Bridgeport Speedway.

At the start of the 2013 season, Friesen looked to be on his way to his first Bridgeport Speedway win as he led the field to the checkered flag on the final lap of the Doug Hoffman Tribute 60 Over event.  But a shortage of fuel, took Friesen out of contention for the win on that day.

For the 2014 Doug Hoffman Tribute 60 Over race, Friesen closed in on race leader, Ryan Watt in the final stages of the sixty lap event.  But it was 2013 Bridgeport Speedway Champion, Watt who would go on to take the checkered and the win.

This time, Friesen was not to be stopped.

After a side by side battle with early race leader, Neal Williams, Friesen would take possession of the lead on lap fourteen and never look back.  Williams ran a strong race and kept Friesen on his radar but Friesen was the class of the field in the Friends of Mike event.  After his previous close calls, Friesen was just waiting for something to happen.  “I was really just hanging on,” Friesen explained.  “I was really slip sliding around there at the end.”  “I was hearing every little noise,” Friesen added.

Matt Sheppard made a late race charge to take second but ran out of time to mount a challenge for the lead.  Sheppard started 20th in the 31 car field and raced into the top five with about twelve laps to go.  Sheppard raced “Showtime” Jimmy Blewett for third with five to go and then took on Williams for second.  Friesen had nearly a straightaway lead at that point in the race and Sheppard was out of laps and out of time.

Blewett, the winner of the 2013 Friends of Mike event, passed Williams in the final laps to finish third.  Williams ran fourth with Wade Hendrickson picking up the final spot in the top five.

Jesse Hill picked up his fourth win of the season with his win in the twenty-five lap Crate/Sportsman feature for the Friends of Mike event.  Hill took the race lead from Scott Hitchens on lap five.  Brett Kressley closed in on the leader at the half-way point but was never able to mount a serious challenge for the lead.  Jared Umbenhauer passed Kressley in the final laps to take second.  Kressley finished third followed by Travis Hill and Rich Rutski.
